View Full Version : What's the verdict on a guy driving a Mini?

A buddy and I were discussing this a couple months ago and I still can't decide...what's the verdict on a guy driving a Mini Cooper?
A guy driving a new VW Beetle either (a.) is really gay or (b.) has a controlling girlfriend who won't let him drive his own car. But is the Mini in the same class as the Bug? It's definitely not as feminine. People don't point and laugh when they see a guy driving a Mini like they would when a guy driving a Bug hauls by like he's driving something cool.

I still can't decide.

If it's one of the newer models, he's gay.

If it's an old/vintage model and in bad shape, he's not gay but not cool either.

If it's an old/vintage model and in perfect (restored) shape he's not gay and may, or may not be, cool.

I love the mini. I am considering buying one, and a newer one at that.

Interested to hear the verdict on this one, cause I know I'm gonna rely on the posts in this thread to help me decide. FWIW I am straight.

A guy driving a mini is fine - nothing gay about it. However, most guys are too bif for a mini and would just look wierd getting out of one.

I have a lot more respect for a straight dude driving a new beetle/mini than I do for a guy driving an enormous SUV with huge chrome rims.

Yeah, I'd have to say this would be inconclusive as far as gay-ness is concerned. I don't know if I would get one, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions on sexual orientation based on having one.

Guy who drives a mini cooper is sexy.

If it's a Cooper S, then it's all good. Those things are awesome.

Driving a Bug just because you like the car fits into catgeory A...being really gay.

So the jury is still split on the Mini...any other opinions from the 2+2 morning crew?

It's similar to driving a Miata. If you have to ask...

I can probably fit a mini in my car...

But can't you modify them pretty well?

(checks internet)

Yeah, they are offically not gay, especially if you put the 'STAGE IV KIT 91 OCTANE BORLA COOPER S' kit on it. Increases the stock 163 hp by 63%!!! Holy crap. My friggen hemi is like 350hp, and it probably weighs 3 times as much. Imagine that little car with 265horses?

Plus TIS has 20" rims that will fit a mini....get a mini in black, tint up the windows, drop in that stage 4 kit. That'd be a pretty badass little car.

I might not be comfortable in a mini because of the size, but I love fast little cars. Minis are definitely not gay.

My dad has a mini. I drive it occasionally, it's a fun car to drive. Don't believe the haters, MSRP is $16.5k base for a standard. What else can you get for that price that will impress the ladies?

And costs (new) $11,500. So you get some cash back, which is nice.

If you buy a Mini, you might as well start ordering wine coolers at the bar. Huge rims are always a good idea though.

I don't know about this... I think there is a straight male indie music listening (sometimes hipster-ish) segment that would think new Beetles are for tools but would drive these. I just saw a guy driving one today that fits the description.

...again, not like I'd buy it.

Well at least the ladies know a guy in a Mini is not trying to make up for other "shortfalls"
