Is there any truth to stories and websites about controlling dice?

Sincerely,

I have seen it for myself, but its an incredible skill that few will ever possess and has to be used very sparingly to avoid detection. Even then its only about adjusting the odds in your favor, it still will not be perfect control, at least in the demonstration I saw a couple of times. The guy I saw do it, I saw it done by him 3 different times and all he said he could do is control the result of one die. He did just that, every roll would show one particular number. The other die would be random. In this case he could get a great edge, getting paid better than even money for events that were essentially even money. Imagine if you could always throw a 3, you can bet the hard six and have 50/50 chance of something that pays 9-1. Once again, it was done with discretion and of course the dice still have a good shot of showing a 7. Still its hugely profitable if you can do it.

Yes, the dice can be controlled.

Consider the situation. You are dealing with objects that are manufactured to very high standards of shape and weight. You are dealing with relatively short throw distances on a uniform surface. The topography of the back wall is a problem but not insurmountable. Knowing of the kinds of manipulation of cards and coins that magicians are capable of, it ought to be obvious that a man could influence the dice enough to obtain a non-random result.

The more important question is whether you have the discipline, patience, and toughness to do it in a casino environment well enough to make it worth your while.

Discipline: You have to practice regularly.
Patience: You have to stand at the table while other shooters have the dice and not let the house grind down your bankroll as you make bets because you want "action."
Toughness: You have to ignore the boxman when he says 'just pick up the dice and throw them.' One way I try to avoid that is to toss a couple of dollars in front of the stickman when I have the dice and say "you and me on the hard 6." The dealers tend to leave you alone then when you position each die as you want it.

If you want to know more, just post a request. If you have any web sites that discuss dice control I would appreciate having you post their links.

get a dice tabble in your house and practice for a few years. then you can slide one die just against the back rail and control what number you want on that die. the casinos are wise to that for years now and make sure anyone betting big at a table has the dice bounce hard off the back wall. plus with the new cameras your picture will be all over griffins places.

That is why you have to do it very sparingly and blend in, much like a card counter. The demos I saw were not sliding the die, they were actually throw with absolute precision. The only potential fault was that the dice leave at slightly different moments from the shooter's hand, not something most shooters do but still nothing that by itself would make someone suspicious. What this shooter did was throw the first die perfectly and the second randomly. To make it less obvious he would change what the "set" die was between different numbers that were beneficial to his hard-way bets. I knew he was pretty good because he gave a couple of us that were watching the signal of number he would throw and probably 80-90% he was able to get the result he wanted. Once again its not perfect, but it doesn't take much to make yourself playing at a significant edge over the house.
