My IS team developed an app for tracking and reporting on the company's investments. I need to name it in a report to the corporate bosses. Anyone have any clever, non-obvious suggestions?

The IS guys, being IS guys, came up with 'Investment Tracker'. I'm looking for something a little less prosaic.

is it still cool to put an I or an E in front of every word?

No?

Crap. I got nothing. Patrick nailed it I believe.

Well, making up bullshit acronyms is always fun. There's "Dynamic Investment Reporting and Tracking" or "DIRT". You could also use the first letter of the name of the company you are making this for to get another IRT name.

or how about "Total Investment Tracking Software" = TITS.

Or I kinda like ROI - but pronounce it "Roy". Has a friendly ring to it.

Or maybe "Bling"

Let's not forget that we don't need words for every letter. For instance, "Invest(ing, ment, etc.) can provide both the i and the n, which would make it BLInG.

What's the initials of your company?

That will give us a little more to work with.

I can come up with bad acronyms all day.

Some of these are hilarious. I gotta work something with BLING, and at least suggest it. I also like ROI. Less funny, but...

The company's name is Globe Insurance Company of Jamaica Limited, often abbreviated GJA.

Shajen

GJA...all I can think of is ganja.

Especially after you mentioned Jamaica.

lemme think some more...

A few years back (ok, fine, early 90s) a coworker told me some Unix company tried to name a certification Certified Unix Network Technician.

I found this hilarious, but I dunno if it's true or not.

This reminds me of something simultaneously funny and embarassing. My undergrad school decided to build a new building for general computing/library/research/tutoring kinds of stuff. I don't remember exactly what it was called, but it acronymed to CLIT and they were serious about it. They put this in publications and stuck with it for a couple years. Then, someone wised up and they renamed it... to the CiLIT. Brilliant. I'm not sure if they're still going with that name or not, but I think they are.

Needless to say, I suggest something similar here, maybe

Corporate Longterm Investment Tracker
or
Corporate Longterm Investment Tracking System

edit: I see Jake is on the ball today as well. It must be good if we both came up with it independently.

Update:

I proposed these five options:

CITRS (pronounced citrus) - Corporate Investment TRacking System
CLIT - Corporate Longterm Investment Tracker
GANJA - Globe Asset Network - JAmaica
ROI - Report & Oversight of Investments
BLING - Business Longterm Investment Needs & Goals
DIRT - Dynamic Investment Reporting & Tracking

So far, GANJA is leading the votes by a two to one margin.

You guys are too funny for words. Thanks for the ideas. Final results will follow.

FWIW (in the unlikely event that this one wins) ROI is actually a common acronym meaning Return on Investment.

Incidentally, if this is too straightforward, you can also call it COrporate Investment Tracking System and refer to it as COITUS. That way, if the system goes down, you can send email simply saying, "COITUS INTERRUPTUS".
