View Full Version : 30s easier than 10s?

This may sound strange, but I've consistently done a better job at the 30's than I have at the 10's. Might my style of play simply be more conducive to success at the 30's than at the 10's?

Maybe competent, 24-tabling 2+2ers have over-flooded the 10's...

This may be surprising, but I have actually found the 30s to be harder than the 10s. Sorry to burst your bubble. Pun intended. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

30s are definitely tougher than the 10s. 10s have more variance though because of the loose calling standards so if you hit a bad streak, it's really bad (and of course the opposite is true for hot streaks). My ROI is slightly higher at the 20s than the 10s though. A good mix of maniacs and weak-tights there. I find it quite hard to find good spots in the 30s because half the table at least somewhat knows what they are doing in regards to late game aggression.

I doubt you find the $11s more difficult because of better players. The players there suck, period. In fact, the players at the $33s suck too, except that they don't all call your pushes with Kx.

You may find the $33s a little more refreshing than the $11s because of the higher FE (and thus, work better with your style), but then again, your sample size might just be crap.

$30s are harder than $10s, if your results are better at the higher level one of two things is the case:

1, the strange results are simply the result of variance, or

2, your natural level of agression/trickiness/whatever is good for the $30s, but you're not adjusting well to your weaker opponents at the $10s. this is bad if true, as it means that your success at the $30s is essentially accidental.

Talking about "style" when it comes to poker is nonsense as the central quality of a good player is adaptability. I wish Harrington had never written that conservative/agressive/super-agressive bit.
