Which poker rate would you pick up out of Wynn, Mirage, Bellagio?

Mirage is cheapest buy isn't Wynn really nice? Worth it?

Also, I'm assuming you don't have problems finding a game at Wynn?

Where is the softest 8/16 - 15/30?

What does it take to get comped a free room? $100 Blackjack?

Mirage is cheaper than the other two but better check with how much they want you to play, I think they want 8 hours or so on weekends. Mirage doesn't have $8-16, only $6-12 and $10-20 and up.

Wynn is nice but a bit out of the way. Mirage and Bellagio are closer to rooms like the Aladdin and MGM(which has $8-16).

One of the best poker rates can be found at Monte Carlo however, they only spead games as high as $4-8. But they only require five hours a day, which means you can play elsewhere.

I also find that Mandalay has a good rate, great place to stay and only 5 hours / day.

I have been there several times where the largest game was 4/8 with .5 kill. Is this typical? What mid-level games (6/12-15/30) do they play regularly there?

Aren't Monte Carlo and Mandalay 3-star hotels? (A notch below Mirage/2 below Wynn/Bellagio)

I hadn't heard of Monte Carlo and Mandalay's poker rates. What are they?

Although, if their highest games are 4/8 I probably wouldn't book.

6 hours/day at the Wynn gets you $129/night during the week, $199 on the weekends.

Completely worth it. Stay there.

I was just at the Wynn. IMO the poker room sucked. It was new and nice, but the games were bad. At 11am on Saturday morning, they didn't even have enough people for a 15/30 game.

The Bellagio is the nicest and the 15 games there were super good. I, being poor, would stay at the Mirage. I haven't played there in a while, but I assume that the games are good, or at least better than at the Wynn. If not, I'd just make my way to Bellagio to play. Playing aat Bellagio and staying at Mirage is probably still cheaper than the poker rate at Bellagio.

If I were on a budget, I'd search around for a cheap room, and play wherever I want.

For example, San Remo is as cheap as $30 midweek. The Flamingo is as cheap as $80 mid week. Unless being in the same hotel as where you play is real imporant to you, I'd just find a cheap room and not worry about it.

Kyleb, This is my biggest concern. The Wynn is very nice, but if games aren't available or are tough and I am stuck there 6 hours a day, then maybe I should stay at the more tried and true Bellagio/Mirage.
Although like you said, "totally worth it", I'd like to check out.

Ken, I'm on budget but not a stringent one. I will be playing a lot of poker, want the softest games, want a 4-star or better, and lastly would prefer to stay where I play. Look at it as part vacation and part poker.

PokerBob, so if I understand you correctly, you would stay at the Mirage without the poker rate and then play at the Bellagio? The regular Mirage rate is not cheaper than the Bellagio poker rate.

Thanks all for chiming in.

How crummy is the San Remo though?

KenProspero
06-27-2005, 11:46 PM
I hear it's supposed to be a decent room, and they have some of the best meal specials in vegas if you like cheap eats.

<font color="purple"> San Remo does have a $5.95 Prime Rib dinner which Nolanfan34 and I had when we were there last week, and it was ok.
However, they are doing some remodeling right now (turning into a Hooter's Casino) so maybe you should wait until after the remodel to stay there. </font>

Its not bad except the occasional corpse in the bathtub

KenProspero

I thought they charged extra for the corpse.

Getting back to the point -- There are a lot of decent rooms in LV on or near the strip that will be less expensive than Bellagio, Mirage, etc. even with the poker rate.

On a budget, I'd look around a bit and see what I could find.

The AmericaWest site is a good resource. They'll give you room quotes without air. Their rates aren't always the lowest, but should give you some idea as to what hotels to check out on line or with a call.

I stayed at Bellagio from 6/18 through 6/22, and I agree that the 15/30 game was great, except at certain times during weekday afternoons.

I played at Wynn's 2/5 NL for a few hours late Saturday night, and the game was pretty tight. I heard that the 40/80 game was great though.

How about the MGM? It's a little cheaper yet not too far from the others? I'm doing this same research right now and I'm kind of leaning this way. How are the games at MGM and during the world series overall? I'd prefereably play 10-20 15-30 but down to 5-10 is fine or no limit, pot/omaha.

Thanks

I'll definitely check out MGM, but from what I've heard it's focus is mostly low limit. But if it's not hard to find a 10-20 or 15-30 game there I'll play. I'm just worried about committing to 6 hours a day if there are no games running or they are tough.
Also their poker rate is only $40 off base (what $ does this work out compared to Bellagio/Wynn/Mirage?), and it's a little further out.

I think I found SanRemo as the cheapest on/really close to the strip on TravelAxe.

Mandalay doesn't have the games you want and is way to far from the other hotels. I thought the Wynn games were good, but I only played 4/8. However, the 8/16 also looked very beatable and was always going. It is also a little down the strip. If I had to do my recent trip over again, I'd probably stay at the Bellagio.

Yeah according to allvegas review (http://www.allvegaspoker.com/room_5.html) Mandalay has 9 tables. I can't commit 5 hours a day to a 9 table room I don't think. Plus someone earlier mentioned that the biggest game was 4/8. Not worth it, unless maybe the room was free.

So it seems:
Bellagio is safest.
Wynn is really nice accomodations, but the games there are suspect.
Mirage is interesting. I know it's cheap, but I haven't heard much about the action there. Are there no decent games left at the Mirage?
What aboug MGM?

felson

I think this is what you want.

http://www.pokerupdate.com/lasvegas.htm

From what you've said, it sounds like you want Bellagio or Mirage. They spread the limits you want (although Mirage goes 10/20 or 20/40) and are located in the middle of the Strip.

The Mirage is great, but I prefer Bellagio. I'm staying at Wynn this weekend. Maybe I'll post some comments when I get back.

According to TravelAxe, Mandalay, Mirage, and Monte Carlo are all 4 stars.

When I played at the Mirage 10/20 a couple of weekends ago, it was super tight. Switched to baby no-limit and it was tight as well.

I agree that the Wynn has a beautiful but very dull cardroom. Not a lot of action there.

4/8 1/2 kill at Mandalay Bay was pretty juicy. I highly recommend that game, particularly if you just want to drink and have a good time.

4/8 and 8/16 at the Bellagio was not worth the wait. My bro did very well at the 15/30 and 30/60 games. Freddy Deeb is much taller on TV.

IMO, poker rate is a bad idea in Vegas. I like the flexibility of playing whereever and whenever I want. I can't speak to the quality of the rooms at the Flamingo, but the casino is gorgeous and the clientele appears to be fairly wealthy. Played a little 2/4 there with this hottie who just turned 21. Good times.

I've met many people who have stayed at the San Remo and all reports are positive. If expense is important then you won't go wrong. It's also located next to Excalibur,MGM,New York,New York and the Tropicana. There's a lot of activity in that part of the strip--I enjoy it more than the other part of the strip(Caesars,Bellagio, etc.)

carlo

Here's a link to a website that has the comp/discount information for the leading poker rooms in Vegas. When I go, I stay at the Bellagio. Everything about the place is great--the rooms, the games, the location, the restaurants, etc.

Good luck!

Mandalay Bay is nicer than Mirage. Haven't been to the Wynn, but of the others I would rank Mandalay 3rd in Vegas behind Venetian and Bellagio (not much behind Bellagio). I would guess the Wynn may be nicer as well, but as I said I haven't been inside yet. With that being said, the Mirage is cheaper than Mandalay and the poker room at the Mirage is much better.

15 meaning 15-30? (I don't think they spread), or 15, the number of games?

Don't they have about 30 tables? Or did you mean 15 games of a specific limit?
Noone talks about the Mirage anymore. It's all Bellagio this, Wynn that.

I was looking around for cheap rooms earlier this week and the best I could find was the Boardwalk (http://www.boardwalklv.com/) Its right next to the Bellagio and the MGM Grand is a short walk away. Plus you can get a room for as cheap as $35 during the week and $80 or so on the weekends. I'm not sure you can find something that cheap in such a good location. That being said, I don't know how much of a [censored] hole it is.

I saw the same thing about Boardwalk and I'm actually staying there for my first two nights then staying the rest of the week at the MGM. For some reason I got a better deal from the poker room checking into the MGM on the weekend. I'll report back on how crappy/tolerable the Boardwalk is.
