what's a good starting bankroll for SNGs at party poker? i have ~$190 in my account... i'm assuming i'll start with the $5+1s, so do i have enough or should i cash it all out and deposit at a place with cheaper games? i tried using the 'search' option but it doesn't seem to be working.

i had $100, built it up to $300 with $25 ring games, then had to cash out half of it to help cover a car repair... soo, i realized how fortunate i was to have done that much at ring games with such a low bankroll, and decided not to test my luck again. but, before i was going to cash the rest out at party, i did a couple $5+1 SNGs. i won the first, took 2nd in the next one... was up and down for a couple more days, won some more, cashed out $50 more to put into an account for my girlfriend as a birthday gift, and that's where i'm at now...

what kinda birthday gift is that?

$200 should be enough for 6 SnGs. Good luck!

5/1 are too much rake, i started out with 100 and played the 10's (pretty silly) but im doin fine now. There are tons of sites that off 5/.50

Seems like there have been a lot of bankroll questions in the past few days. We should make a bankroll post or FAQ a sticky.

Don't play the 5+1s on party. Either find a site where there are 5.50s or play the party 11s. The 20% rake is just too much.

thanks sir.

and, as for what kind of birthday gift it is, its apparently an awesome gift, since she loved it /images/graemlins/cool.gif

she got into poker last summer watching me and her brother play in some live games, so i thought she'd like something like that, as one of her gifts. her brother contributed $50 as well, giving her $100 at royal vegas online...

is my $200 enough of a bankroll for the $11?

i know for ring games, its 20x the buy-in... so that would be a little less than that.. but i'm not sure how much that applies to SNGs.. (as you can see, bankroll management is not my strongpoint, though i'm trying to improve)

I think you should play the 6s, mostly because you have a lower ROR and variance, despite the *gasp* 20% vig. Here's why:

Let's assume you can acheive 20% ROI at a $5 SNG level with 10% rake. This is realistic, especially if you commit yourself to learning from books, other players and this forum.

Over the course of 500 SNGs:
500*$5.5 = $2750 in buyins.
$2750*20% = $550 in profit.
$2750+$550 = $3300 total $ won.

Now lets assume the 20% rake. Over the same 500 SNGs:
$3300 total $ won.
500 * $6 buyin = $3000 in buyins.
$300 / $3000 = 10% ROI.

So, your ROI would be half as much, though your profit would be more than half as much ($550 vs. $300). The drop in ROI with a greater starting ROI is less significant.

Even though you're making much less, the ROR is much lower than going into 11s with less than 20 buyins. It's also very, very easy to beat these games.

However, if you can, try to play on Pstars instead at either the $5.50 SNGs or $6.50 turbo SNGs. If you're going to play on party or a skin, it's still best to play at the 6s with that small a BR, IMO.
