I promised I'd update some people on my 8 tabling sit and go progress so here we go:

Back in early April I decided to seriously focus on sit and go's because I fantasized about the very low variance that could be acheived once mastering them. I was playing plenty of $215s back then but was only 4 tabling and honestly I didn't know exactly what I was doing, despite thinking I did. Probably if you read some of my posts from Feb/April there are plenty of them that I'd disagree with now.

Anyway while learning to 8 table I started from scratch by 8 tabling the $22s and moving up in slow increments. This was a great idea for me because I worked out a ton of holes in my first 300-400 tournaments and it was nice to do so at a lower buyin. Finally about 1.5-2 weeks ago I got to the point where I was 8 tabling $215s and then I started throwing in some $430s on Party. It actually feels like much much longer but I suppose it hasn't been. Anyway I try to play 32 sit and gos every day, which takes me about 4-5 hours since I play in sets instead of continuously. Every now and then something comes up and I have to skip a day or two, or somehow only get in 24, but in general I usually get in my 32 tournaments.

Anyway here are my results for June as Im done for the month since Im going to the WSOP tomorrow...below are my results throughout the whole project.

June 2005 (Rakeback NOT included)

Pokerstars $525+30 Turbo: 1 tourney (-$555, ROI 0, ITM O)

PartyPoker $400+30 Mini Step 5: 12 tourneys (+$2,940, ROI 56.98, ITM 58.33)

PartyPoker $200+15: 363 tourneys (+$20,955, ROI 26.85, ITM 39.12)

PartyPoker $100+9: 241 tourneys (+$4,940, ROI 18.81, ITM 37.76)

TOTAL FOR June 2005: 617 tourneys (+28,280, ROI 25.70, ITM 38.90)

total results thru april in next post...

Here are my overall results. I feel my results are not so great at the $22s+ $33s because the first 200-300 tourneys I had to patch up some major holes and simply wasn't that good yet. My ROI at that point was not so high, but I think I learned a few things and over the next 200-300 tourneys it went up very quickly:

Overall Results (Rakeback not Included)

Pokerstars $525+30 Turbo: 1 tourney (-$555, ROI 0, ITM O)

PartyPoker $400+30 Mini Step 5: 12 tourneys (+$2,940, ROI 56.98, ITM 58.33)

PartyPoker $200+15: 365 tourneys (+$21,525, ROI 27.43, ITM 39.18

PartyPoker $100+9: 642 tourneys (+$12,031, ROI 17.19, ITM 36.45)

PartyPoker $50+5: 350 tourneys (+$5,200, ROI 27.01, ITM 38.86)

PartyPoker $30+3: 579 tourneys (+$3,723, ROI 19.49, ITM 39.38)

PartyPoker $20+2: 264 tourneys (+$1,052, ROI 18.11, ITM 37.88)

Total Stats - 2213 tourneys (+$45,916, ROI 23.15, ITM 38.32)

what was your longest downswing in this period?

[/ QUOTE ]

I honestly had almost no signifigant downswing the entire time. I'm sure this was lucky, as I had one 8 day stretch back when I was playing the $109s in which I would win like 1500 one day and lose 1500 the next over and over again. Of course the losing days could have been consecutive instead of alternating.

[/ QUOTE ]

My results since the new blind level have been absurd. My total ROI has gone up from 18 to 23 or whatever. I have won every single day since the new blind level and very signifigant amounts. I'm not sure if the change is related but I feel much more comfortable with it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I just started playing them and they go off so rarely that I can only get 1 of them in during my 8 tables and a good portion of the time I can't get any in so I just play 8 $215s.

if so, what?

and any suggestions/advice on going up to 8 tables?

More regulars? I play with the same people a bit more often at the 215s. I dunno, honestly I have a hard time discerning the difference but I'm sure there is one. I'm also obviously getting lucky at the 215's so far, as 26 ROI is nowhere near attainable. However I wouldn't be surprised if my longterm ROI will be over 15%, and would be quite dissapointed and shocked if I can't get higher than 10%.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you go up to 8 tables, start at a lower limit until you feel very comfortable or unless you feel ridiculously comfortable at the limit you currently play.

Honestly back in the day I probably could have jumped into 8 tabling $215s if I knew how to play sit and gos well. However I simply wasn't that good at sit and gos. Since then I've learned a ton about the math, using K+S charts, and eastbays program and have sharpened my instincts as well.

Main point is that I was already a pro poker player and pretty good, but I was playing $215 sit and gos without a great understanding of how to play them well. I can only imagine how many others there are doing the same, who think they are playing very well that actually aren't and don't realize how much better a lot of the other players are. Note that I was winning at the games back then, but probably somewhere in between 5-8 ROI....

1. Congrats , that is awesome.

2. I am just beginning to 8 table. I know you posted your formula before for how to move up but I didn't really follow exactly how you did it.

Can you give me an example starting at 8 tables of $11 with $500 in each account to start? Thanks.

Amount of money in account is irrelevant.

Play 8 tables of $11. Play them all day or whatever. On the following day, see what your running total is from playing sit and gos. If you are up $200 (10x the buyin of the next level), then replcae one of your $11s with a $22. Keep doing this until youve won I guess $1600 (80x the buyin of the next level) at which point youll be playing 8 $22s and then you repeat for every level..

This assumes that everyone perfectly calculates their own ev given your face up cards.

So it has no direct breaing on actual poker. But can be a useful (although Eastbay may disagree based on past post(s) ) theoretical model and starting point for push/fold calculations.

So you are actually opening new and new accounts, transfer money from your existing accounts to them, play and when you want to cash out, you just transfer the money back to the original accounts? Is that how you do it? /images/graemlins/smile.gif But if you want a rake back on every of these accounts, you could have problems. You would need a new person you know and who would agree to it for every new account you create.
If that is too trivial, excuse me. But I'm really interested in details how do you guys make these accounts.

Honestly I can't remember although I know I had some. I rememeber one hand in particular that woke me up. I had something like A5 2 or 3 off the button and the blinds were like 100-200. Well I have a chart that says what the value of these hands are when turned face up.

Anyway A5o 2 off the button is like 6x BB, which means that if you pushed A5o faceup here, if you had more than 6x the BB it would be -EV against all equal stacks.

Anyway I remember I had something like 1800 chips and there were 2 big stacks behind me I believe. Anyway I decided to push anyway because I felt my opponents would fold better hands like A6,A7, A8 or whatever. Anyway Im not sure this is the exact situation but of course I got called by some hand like AJ and lost all my chips.

It was a terrible allin whatever it was, but since then I've become much more controlled.

My best regret on 2+2 is to not be gifted to speak english, and only the fact to read need some effort, and I can miss many things...

I try to not lose the wire of ariane I found on 2+2.

The idea of a chart is interesting. I have has everybody I guess some " chart " in my mind, but it seems really hard to make one on paper.

Poker is few concept, that you have to play well, as it seems under PP in what we play.

btw just a forewarning, Im going to post my results at the end of every single month. If I happen to not post them feel free to assume I lost a ton of money or something. However they will be posted irregardless every month at the end of the month.

Is this really necessary? I know you are a great player, but if every great player did this it would take a magnifying glass to find the decent threads in this place.
