Do you bother making this call? I flopped the worst possible board, I didn't want to put more chips in the pot when I didn't think the big stack would let me see a cheap showdown.

I'd call. I don't have a read on the player but its hard to bet a dry pot when hero has shown PF strength. I think his range is much wider than yours here because of position. I'd call and see.

I'd just save myself the headache and push preflop.

i like a push pre-flop. i think you should call the flop. you have 3 outs to a pretty strong hand, and 4 more to a moderately strong hand that can win a showdown.
