Hi,

Recently I got into MTT. I found many of the cheap MTT buy-in's appealing such as the 1 or 2 dollar ones that are on PartyPoker and Pokerstars where you can 1000x your buyin. I played on a couple of them and lost, are they really worth the trouble? or should I go into a little more expensive MTT's.

Well, consider this, the average $1 PokerStars
MTT takes 5-6 Hours to finish, at least 4 hours,
to the final table, and 1st place usually only
offers $50-100, so even assuming you overcome
the odds, how do you value your time?

Depends really. If you have a smaller bank roll and winning one of those would be great for your bankroll then I dont see a problem at all. But as someone previously said, you only win about 50-100 bucks for more than a few hours work.

So what should i do?
should i just pratice on 5+.5 MTT becuase of my small bankroll or start with SnG's and move my way up the ladder?

Read some books, play different types of games. Go with what feels best and beatable.

Depends on your Skills, but I started with a
$5 bankroll on Stars and played MicroLimits
until I made it to $30 or so, and then I
started playing the $5 SnG while playing
a low limit table at the same time, that way
even if I busted in the SnG I could still
recover the money from the ring table. Ring
table skills help a lot in tourneys, so start
with the .5/.10 cent tables if your at Stars,
with any skill you can make a $2-4/hour there
and build your bankroll, and if your worried
about getting schooled, play Omaha 8 instead
of Hold em because you will almost always be
playing with the nuts.

Just my advice, Im sure others have different ideas
as well. Oh, and I waited till I had $100 before I
started playing the $10 MTTs (while also playing a
$.5/1 of course)

Play the $5.50 sngo's mainly... and.. play the $3 rebuy for the $215 T$... a $3 rebuy for the $T will pay about 30 or so most 9pm games. Win a $215 and then continue playing sngo's.

U should still play a few cheap mtt's - for the experience.. but... don't waste time on too many of them

You can also try the 1.00 sngs that are 5 tables.

Faster than regular Low limit MTTs but play more like a MTT then a sng.

I forgot about the $1 +.20 at Stars, they
just created those. I played a couple, takes
about 2 hours to finish one, but pretty easy
to beat if you know what your doing, 1st place
pays $14, down to 7th which pays $2, field of
45, most of which are maniacal aggro.

If you want some cheap MTT experience but don't want to waste 5 hours, don't play the cheap tourneys at the huge sites like Party and Stars. Go to Interpoker, Absolute, Bodog - middle size places like that.

If you want to play cheap just to build a bankroll, there are much better ways than playing cheap MTT's. Go to www.bonuswhores.com (http://www.bonuswhores.com) and get to work!

I play the 5s and 10s on UB and Stars. I prefer UB because of the smaller fields and slower structure. My strategy now is to grind away at the 10 Party SNG to build the bankroll, and start playing the 20-30 level MTTs. I've noticed the skill level between $1 and $10 to be about the same.

I think there is some misinformation in this thread. The stars 1,2 and 3 dollar MTT's usually pay at least $200 for first, not $50-100. Up to $1000 for first in the 3 buck MTT's. If you are lucky enough to get in the top 3 these can be more than valuable use of your time.

Obviously there are much bigger payouts in the higher buyin MTT's and better competition but for those on a low bankroll, these cheap MTT's can be profitable.

He asked about the $1 tourneys, and
average between stud, omaha, holdem NL, Limit
Holdem all put together is $50-100, if
we are to talk strictly about the $1 NL Hold'em MTT,
then 1st place is around $200, almost never higher
than $225 or so.

I assume he is talking about holdem here. He asked about 1 and 2 dollar MTT's in his post or cheap buyins in general as the title suggests. I play in these all the time on Stars and Stars only. Even the 1 buck MTT's always pay over $200 for first, usually closer to $300 in the evening ones.

For someone on a low bankroll, say less than $100, this is potentially a huge payout for a very small investment. There is clearly potential value in these cheap buyins for 4-5 hours work.

I think the best deal going is Party's twice daily $5k freeroll. They cap the field at 2500 and it take about 6 hours to complete. They begin paying at 50 ($50.00). Final Table pays $75 and up with first place taking a sweet $1000.00.

If you are just starting out and on a low bank roll.... a $3MTT other night 1st paid $800 good money. Problem was only one person wins it. And more than 97% of the 1,000 entrants left with less than $15 and to get there spent 4 hours.

Not knowing if this gent is a great player yet.. so for the $$ and the odds he is much better off building a bank roll where the top 1/3rd pay ie. a $5.50 sngo.

Sure play the low $$ MTT's just don't think you can avoid the "moron" playing 2 3 offsuit all in v- your AA. With a 227 flop. It happens way too often and your out. Just my opinion.

That's true - but do they still have the $1 (20%) fee? That's just too much.
