A friend of a friend has a blog in which he details some pretty amusing encounters with Ellix Powers, the man made famous by his antics during the televised final table of a WSOP event.

For those of you that don't remember, Ellix was the homeless guy who did things like leave the table for twenty minutes to smoke outside, and whom McManus said during the event was "disrespecting the game."

There is some non-poker stuff on the blog, so just CTRL-F through for "Ellix" to find the (so far) eight stories of Ed's encounters with Ellix.

Here's a direct link (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sugarjames/?skip=36) to the first installment.

Sweet link. I particularly enjoyed this:

There are thousands of Ellix Powers' running around all over the place. Each of them has a different angle, but they all have the same goal.

No offense, but your friend is a mark. Ellix definitely isn't the worst guy in the world and I'm sure he's entertaining, but all he wants from your friend is money.

Being around a hustler like Ellix is probably a little exciting for your friend, given Ellix's notoriety. You can never give a guy like that an inch as far as cash, rides, a place to stay, etc. goes, however. He will burn you everytime.

Interesting stories, though. He's definitely a colorful character.

Is your friend black? Just curious what makes him wanna hang out with a guy like ellix... and no im not saying only black people would want to just wondering because of some of the terms he used in his journal.

I'd be astonished if the author of those blog entries wasn't 100% aware of this.

I think the guy is perfectly willing to spend some time and small amounts of money just to hang out with this guy for pure entertainment value. Now that's some foresight [censored].

I told Ellix I would give him 80 bucks to buy in to a limit game. He said he would, took the money, and started walking out of the convention center. I was like "yo, where are you going", he said "I just gotta meet this guy in the parking lot real quick, Ill be back". He took off, and I stayed pretty much even, when he got back he explained to me that he didnt want to sit at a 4-8 game, said it just frustrated him. I said that was cool, but maybe he should give me the money back then. He asked me who I liked in the basketball game and I told him whoever the home team is, and he said maybe he would take the spurs and the under for 20 and if it hit hed get 72, he explained that those were the kind of moves we had to make. I again asked for my money back. He explained he was just kidding and that he had a guy getting him money on monday so he would pay me back then. Being up 320, some of which was attributable directly to ellixs advice on tells and his intimidating presence, I decided I could afford to toss the guy the 80 bucks, and be happy on the day.

The first person he introduced me to was wheels, who was a late twenties preppy looking white guy in a wheelchair. Ellix said “This is my buddy wheels”, which brought a slight look of disgust from wheels. He put out his hand and said, “Im Kevin, nice to meet you” to which I replied, “Im Ed, nice to meet you wheels.” It was hard for me to keep from laughing given that he clearly didn’t like being called wheels and Ellix clearly didn’t know his name otherwise. Not only that, but he had called him brian on the phone the day before.

We went through a negotiation that was too humorous for me to even try to play hardball, as ellix wrote what amounted to random numbers on a sheet of paper and started talking about all sorts of contingencies involving people backing him who likely don’t exist. A quote from the negotiation might have sounded something like "If I find mickey, hes big money, but he plays hardball, Id probably have to lower you down to 5% but I might just take 5% out of my cut and give it to you as well so you are guaranteed at least 15 percent even if mickey backs me, but if its lang then I think I can get you.." I just nodded as he drew lines between numbers and circled items he felt were important. From what I can tell, I was giving him 200 dollars and it entitled me to 20% of his winnings in the 1500 dollar fixed limit world series event, as well as an autographed hat.

For anyone interested in Ellix, I played with him last night at Commerce, and discussed a few different eccentricities throughout this thread. (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=smallholdem&Number=3235384 &page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=all)
