I'll be heading to Aruba in just over a month, and would love to get as much info as possible about the poker rooms down there.

I'll be staying at Marriott's Aruba Ocean Club, and I'm pretty sure they don't have poker there, but from what I hear there are some nearby casino's that do.

I'd love to get my hands on a good Omaha8 game and probably a couple NLHE SnG's. Not sure what's available or for what stakes.

Any info/web links would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the two main places are the radisson and the holiday inn. not sure what games they will have going, because i was there during a big tournament so the games were likely affected by that.

Thanks, I had seen that post a few weeks ago. Didn't know if anyone else had more info or knew of a website that had things like a casino listing, hours of operation, games, number of tables, limits, etc

I was there a year ago and the poker wasn't much to speak of. I heard the only poker room was at the Holliday Inn which was a reasonable walk from our hotel, The Wyndom.

So I walked down there with my wife after dinner and found the room which was small, only about 8 tables but there weren't any games going.

They told us the games didn't get started until late, around 11:00 pm so we just skipped it.

Don't freak out when at a 4/8 table some bets $8 on the flop. It's a Aruba, and dealers are poker dumb, and the rest of the players won't care. That's assuming you find a game.

That, and it's actually a rule there that you can bet $4 or $8 on the flop (atleast it was while i was there).

They had a couple of other strange rules too, but I can't remember them.

No, you see that's just it...I don't think there were any rules down there as far as the dealers were concerned. Was quite an experience.

you are wrong, Shoe is correct. you can bet $8 on the flop in a $4/$8 game. it is a rule. it is your option.

Thought of one of the other strange rules...

The Wyndham had a rebuy tourney every night. You could rebuy as many times as you wanted at once, and you could rebuy no matter what your chip count was. So you could start the tourney with 25 buy ins if your heart would so desire.

Didn't Negreneau do this in one of the WSOP re-buy tourneys last year?

I don't know anything about the WSOP rebuy tourneys....but it seemed that one of them did NOT have any kind of maximum chip requirement in order to re-buy so Negreneau went crazy and had 27 re-buys in the first hour or something.

Can anyone confirm this? I seem to remember a thread about it pretty clearly.

Yes, Negreneau did do that at one of the events last year.

The difference between that and what I was saying in Aruba, is that in Aruba you could rebuy 25 times at once if you wanted to, where as in most rebuy tournaments you can only rebuy if your chip count is below a certain threshold, such as 1500 chips on Stars.

Negreneau (or however it is spelt), must have went broke 27 times (or close to it) during the rebuy tournament. I don't think he was able to rebuy all 27 times at once.

I thought he just kept re-buying.
I didn't think he went broke 27 times.

I was there in March. My gf and I played most nights at the Raddisson. Generally they didn't get going until 8 or 9 in the evening. Even when they had tournies (which started earlier), they didn't start ring games until well after the tourney had ended, despite having dealers hanging out doing nothing... (?)

They had 4-8 and 10-20 limit along with (I think) 1-2 and 5-10 NL. All holdem. It was indeed a rule that you could bet a big bet on the flop and most people did just that. The only point of contention/confusion on this was that some dealers allowed a SB raise after a BB bet, which made no sense.

Staff was generally nice, if a bit disorganized. Games seemed soft (we just played 4/8 which was very soft but my impression was the other games were soft too). It was mostly drunk tourists and alot of locals, about 50% of whom seemed insane. Lots of people just in there trying to hit the jackpot. One lady who seemed very nice, but not very good, just kept rebuying for like $200 by writing them CHECKS, which was kind of funny.
