View Full Version : Random Drunken LV Tale #54367039 (long)

Last night was the final night for the Minnesota contingent of poker players in Vegas. To celebrate their final night, we decide to have a night on the town. The party included me, Schneids, BK, NLSoldier, Fsuplayer and his roommate, Josh. We head over to the Palms to eat at N9ne Steakhouse. Dinner was excellent, though Schneider didn’t order any drinks with dinner and Fsuplayer was stuck having an interstate argument with his fiancé during the first few courses. Somehow, Schneids didn’t get kicked out for wearing a t-shirt and cargo shorts. This impressed me. I will learn how to do that some day. Good times were had by all.

After dinner, we head out to play some craps before hitting the clubs. Since everyone else in the world walks slower than me when I am buzzed/drunk and on a gamb00ling kick, I lead the pack to the craps pit. I spot a nice little table with a good view of most of the pit and one large gray-haired guy as its only gamer. I stumble up and drop a few bills on the table…I’m focused and ready to play. Five to ten seconds later, the rest of my not-so-fleet-of-foot party shows up at my table and I hear someone from my party say, somewhat quietly, “Dude, it is T.J.” Many others of my party confirm his identity to me in muted tones. I look up. Holy crap. We’re playing craps with TJ Cloutier.

Me: “TEEEEEEEEE JAAAAAAYYYYY!!! HOW’S IT GOING?”
TJ: *inaudible muttering*

The look on this man’s face is not one of a “happy gamer.” I decide this man could crush my skull, so I try to befriend him. I, along with the rest of my party, drop down a few red chips on the pass line and loudly instruct TJ to roll us a seven. Although I cannot give first hand confirmation, the dealers and multiple party members later informed me he had $2,000 on the pass line.

TJ rolls a seven.

Me: “ATABOY, TJ!!!”

Wild celebrating and high-fiving of other members of our party ensues.

Seconds later, the dealer swoops in and cleans every chip off the pass line. I am confused. I, along with the rest of the group, express our confusion to the dealers and to TJ. TJ informs us that he tried to tell us he had already made a point before we got there, and his seven just crapped us out, or whatever the craps terminology is for “screwed us over.”

Oops. Again, the look on TJ’s face did not make me think he would consider that little etiquette faux pas as water under the bridge. I begin to apologize profusely, but soon turn my attention to the cocktail waitress who needed me to tell her to bring me many Coronas. By the time my attention is back to the table, I have the incident forgotten. Josh, the next roller after TJ, craps out quickly, and the dice are sent to yours truly. As it’s early in the night, I inform TJ and the rest of the table that I am feeling good, and that I am going to make everyone a ton of money. As the dice are being sent over to me, I watch TJ place his bet on the pass line, and notice both of his wrists are bare. Since he is on the other side of the dealer and a whole 8 feet away from me, I decide to turn up the volume and inquire “HEY TJ, WHERE’S YOUR BRACELET?!?”

*Awkward two-second silence* I wonder to myself what the hell made me say that.

Thankfully, a small smile cracks on his face. He politely informs me he doesn’t wear his bracelets everywhere he goes. I congratulate him on his recent win anyways. I proceed to crap out in expeditious fashion, and somewhere in the next two or three rolls, TJ slinks away from the table and resurfaces across the pit at a different table, presumably with people who don’t know him. I decide I suck and that I should go over and apologize, but somehow conveniently forget as soon as NLSoldier gets the dice in his hands and hits point after point for us. By the time he had to pass the dice, some cute girls had fill in where TJ was standing and I decide making TJ leave was a good thing.

I apologize for making this story so self-centered (and long). When out on the town, only bits and pieces of the night come back to me the next morning, and the only pieces of this part of last night that came back to me today are what you see here. Hopefully, someone will fill in any important details if I missed them.

This is the least believeable part of the story, considering the fact that these three couldn't be dragged from the table when there were about 50 of us in town, drinking and gambooling. So good work.

I was pleasantly surprised to see such non-nitish behavior out of this group. I never saw Dave without a Corona. Schneider said he only played 10 non-tourney hours of poker on the trip (though it prolly ended up around 20 hours). BK drank and ran bad and played craps.

good write up doug.

we were def. not as nice or suckupish as a group as it comes off in the story however.

TJ was big, mean, and ugly and finally left after the events stated above, as well as constant "TJJJ!!!" shout outs and our general drunken obnoxiousness.

i think it was the braclet comments that finally drove him to leave. either that or obnxnole saying not-so-quietly "TJ should have know he had no chance. you cant beat Jesus heads up," when referring to the 2000 WSOP.

laugh of the night: as we are all carrying on and being loud, I hear BK tell the craps dealer on my left, in all seriousnees, that we are actually all high stakes poker players. i dont think he believed us.

Red chip? $5 pass line bets while TJ is playing with 2K pass line bets? What casino was this, sounds like my kind of place!

The Palms has something like 2k max pass line bets with 10 or 15 bucks for the minimum. Being this was T.J. Cloutier, I'm sure they bumped it to 100k for him as they know his track record in dice.

I did! I did! Diner was at the Palms, there is no mention of where the craps table was. And if there is a $10 or $15 min pass line bet, then why did Dougie lay down a red chip?

Even if you couldn't drag NLSoldier from the tables the whole weekend, he still does a fantastic job of getting completely trashed while winning three or four racks in the process.

Sorry, that's all conjecture from my perches at the Mirage and Wynn. Winning racks while drunk is nothing. Winning racks against 2+2ers while drunk is another thing. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I enjoy most of the trip reports posted on the website (this one included), but surely you realize that virtually all of them are self-centered and that none of the details are truly "important" to anyone but the participants?

I believe his point was that OP need not have apologized for the nature of his report.

On an unrelated point - good lord, you have >11k posts, yet I don't recognize you. Must be one of those OOT people.

I walked into the Wynn Poker room on Friday night and I saw a game of 4/8 crazy pineapple with a full kill going on. There was a young looking guy with a massive stack of chips in front of him. He was loud and intoxicated. I said to myself, "that must be gonores." It turns out that it was actually The Dude.

I don't know how I missed meeting you even though I did meet Schneids, BK, and NLSoldier (who tried to bluff raise me on the river in a big pot).

It would have been a better story if TJ had punched you in the face /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

edit: and thanks for pointing out what was meant by the other post. i didn't make the connection to the last paragraph as had read the op awhile ago.

I added that last paragraph not for the average reader, but for the other members of the party from that night. I thought I made the trip report sound like I was the only one being funny that night, and that isn't the case.

Example: Josh says to TJ, "you should have known you had no chance in 2000. Nobody can beat Jesus heads-up." Moments later, he delivers this gem. "You should have known ace-queen was no good. What were you thinking? You gotta lay that down against Jesus"

Friggin hilarious.

I'm not sure who is supposed to be more flattered by this, but I must say it feels cool that someone walked into a casino, saw some loud and drunk kid spraying at a poker table, and thought "gonores."

Suffice to say, when The Dude and I met up at the Mirage a few months ago, many classic lines and stories came out of it.
