Upon a suggestion from Homer J. Simpson, I checked out Travelaxe. Seems great. One thing though: I'm coming to Vegas to ref a hockey tourney Thurs. Mar 13 to Sun. Mar 16, and the best deal it could find was Castaways for $58 and changes. That's unreal! Second best was the classy trifecta of the Las Vegas Club, El Cortez, and Econolodge at about $130 for the three nights. Am I missing something? Or did I just catch a really good promotion?

I'm going to be so friggin tired after the games that I think I might track down the best rate for the Barbary Coast and shuttle it to the Orleans or walk to the Bellagio each night.

Dan

P.S. Bonus question: Which of the first or second tier rooms have comfortable chairs? No, seriously.

Hi Dan, I got your PM a few days ago but wasn't able to get back here to respond to your post until today. I think that the rates you were quoted are pretty standard for those hotels (hotels in Vegas can be quite cheap). Out of those hotels, the only ones I really know anything about are EC and LVC. I would not recommend staying at EC as the neighborhood is a bit sketchy (even though it is only 2 blocks away from Fremont Street, which is where the main downtown casinos are). LVC is on Fremont Street next to all the other downtown hotels (Plaza, Golden Gate, Horseshoe, Gold Nugget, Four Queens, etc). Their rooms are good for the price, as they are clean and safe. If all you are looking for is a place to sleep and shower, this will do the job. The only problem will be transportation between there and downtown. You can either rent a car or take the bus (CAT 301). Since it looks like you plan on playing at the Bellagio, you might want to consider staying at the Monte Carlo. I stayed there for 5 nights at the beginning of this month for about $60 a night (this included two weekend nights). They have a small, nice poker room, and there is a tram that runs between there and the Bellagio. You can also call the poker room directly to find out what the poker rate is (I don't have the phone number off-hand). Any other questions let me know...
