View Full Version : I see 90% VPIP, and I immediately come down w/a case of FPS

Here's my thinking. Let me know if I'm insane.

Table was unusually tight, except for SB at 90% VPIP.

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (9 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 3/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, MP3 calls, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">SB 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero caps</font>, MP3 calls, SB calls.

I raised because table was unusually tight. I wanted heads up against SB. MP3 coldcalls. So SB reraises, and I need to cap to push out MP3, which didn't work.

Flop: (13 SB) 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 2/images/graemlins/club.gif, 8/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP3 folds, SB calls.

Pot is too big to fold, I need MP3 out, so I raise. MP3 obliges.

Turn: (8.50 BB) 7/images/graemlins/heart.gif <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: (8.50 BB) 4/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 10.50 BB

I suppose I'm overadjusting to high VPIP players.

Seems that you should be more concerned with his PFR and 3-betting standards than his VPIP. I've seen plenty of 90/6 players -- just because he like to see every flop possible doesn't mean you shouldn't respect his 3-bet from the SB.

This is a decent way to mix it up and get some action from the tighties at the table. It worked out OK and we sure are glad MP3 didn't mess things up and not let us get to a showdown as we probably want to show this down for advertising so we can loosen the table up a bit. This kind of play I like at these tight tables and from your position, I might like it even more with K high or something like it. I might try something similar from a little later position. I wouldn't be so sure we're getting it heads up with SB unless BB is super tight.

Well played on the flop. Bet the turn and check the river if you want to check somewhere.

Postflop the only thing I do different is bet the turn and check through the river. You probably gave overs a free 6-outer against you.

Oh yeah, if I'm cr on the turn I dump it. You have position, use it.

Bet the turn don't give the overs a free-card. Otherwise it looks perfectly fine to me.

You need to provide his pfr and aggression factors to give much of a read on this hand. All your decisions should be based on these numbers. The 90 VPIP is almost meaningless given this action.

Good luck.
