I vote for "Face/Off". I never actually saw it, and part of the reason is that its name is so retarded.

Phone booth! An action drama in the most exciting setting ever; inside an ordinary PHONE BOOTH!!

I only ended up seeing this shitty movie, with its idiotic plot because it was shown on an airplane. Plot holes galore.

-spoilers-

He is stuck in the phone booth and framed for shooting a prostitute just outside that is really shot by a sniper from afar, and a gun is placed in the booth to complete the set up. Police obviously would never look at the direction of the bullet, or the fact that it's not a handgun bullet. The hero is idiotic aswell.

Anyways.. shitty title.

Phone Booth wasn't a bad movie (I don't think the cops are going to do an autopsy and crimescene recreation while there's obviously an armed man across the street), and that's coming from a guy who has no patience for bad movies.

Worst titles that come to mind, just off the top of my head:

Reservoir Dogs

Rounders

I know that was the horse's real name, but they still could have named the movie something else. It wasn't a bad flick either, but still semi-embarassing when your friends ask what you rented and you try to look serious saying, "Sea Biscuit."

I got the two conflated.

I think giving a movie the character's names is the height of lack of imagination.

It's even worse when the poster is a big close up of them sort of shaking the head kind of laugh, or the overdone Julia Roberts kind of hyper-laugh. About...well, nothing maybe. You don't know, and they haven't done a thing to sell you on caring. Get a title that tells you nothing along with a print ad/poster that tells you nothing, and to me it's a warning that the producers are afraid of their movie.

This is sometimes further carried forward with a trailer that tells you nothing -- lots of scenes of laughing and people just being wonderful, a few quick snatches of dialogue that are hard to interpret, and then a freeze frame on the actor.

The funny thing is, half the titles here are actually GOOD titles. Not just indifferent or less than ideal -- but actually good.

People just don't like the movie or the star or the subject sometimes and ascribe it to the title.

Ok, some of the titles here are good. But I'm going to defend my choice for Worst Ever: "The Girl, The Gold Watch, and Everything" ???? C'mon!

- Titles that list things are generally bad (this includes album titles). It's like the creator just couldn't decide what was more important or more catchy. I've sat in rooms where producers were arguing/working on titles, and used a list as a lame compromise between opposing ideas.

- Starting the title with "The Girl" is particularly weak. Everyone knows that screenplays have to include "The Girl" when she is not the main character: it is such a basic tenet of scripts that it has been a joke in sketches.

- "Gold" is a pathetic attempt at alliteration and visual imagery. This is third grade poetry at best.

- "Everything" just caps it. Note that this movie was NOT a spoof whereby including "Everything" in the title might a funny over-the-top joke.

I suppose it is a good title in that it is sooooo bad, if that's what you mean. But I don't think that's what you mean.

"Face/Off" and "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" are actually very CLEVER movie titles, IMHO.

My least favorite movie titles: "Beaches" and "Fried Green Tomatoes". Because when my wife says, "Let's watch, 'Beaches,'" or, "Hey honey, let's watch 'Fried Green Tomatoes,'" I get sick to my stomach.
