does anyone else think that will ferrell has taken a turn for the worst lately with his film selections? i used to really like him, but now i just think he's a sellout....

kicking and screaming?
bewitched?
elf?

and he's currently filming curious george and joan of bark: the dog who saved france - sound exciting /images/graemlins/frown.gif

the only movies he's done in the last 5 years that are any good are anchorman and old school - why no more movies like those?

come on - this guy WAS snl, and the night at the roxbury/ladies' man/superstar were great!

am i the only one who thinks this?

Yes, you're definitely onto something, though i actually thought 'Elf' had some redeeming qualities.

You could say the same thing about Johnny Depp, although I believe I read somewhere that he wanted to make movies his kids could watch.

nah... you're rating scale is way teh [censored] off. elf was an amazing piece of movie artistry. for the first 3 months after it came out on video, it was on in the back ground every friday night for every party my room mates and i had. comic genius i say.

See, the thing about Will Ferrell is that he has only 1 character in his comic repetorie. It baffles me that people haven't caught on and gotten sick of this at any point during the past decade.

Maybe it's just me, but I see very little relations in Ron Burgandy, Mugato, Buddy Elf, etc. C'mon, the guy is good.

I gotta disagree. Bewitched looks pretty good. At least he isn't doing the same acts likely Adam Sandler.

Both Ron Burgundy and Elf looked absolutely terrible so I didn't bother to watch. Old School isn't that good either.

Old School is funny as hell. So is Anchorman.

Old School was alright. Super Troopers is terribly overrated aswell.

This thread is completely filled with nits. Let me address a few more glaring inaccuracies.

Elf was good. Obviously it was aimed at children so if you were expecting cussing and titties I suppose you would be disappointed. Still, a funny movie with several hilarious scenes/lines.

Then you go on to list Night at the Roxbury as being "great." Right here is where I pretty much started regarding you as a moran.

Then someone else starts rambling about Will Ferrell only having one character. Fortunately there is at least one sane man left in the world, thank you TBag.

Seriously, folks. Anchorman is comedic genius. Old School was good. Elf was good. Will Ferrell is by far the best thing to come out of SNL in the last ten years, and I'd rank him in my top ten all-time SNL alums.

his current project, stranger then fiction sounds like he's trying to be more of a Jim Carrey black comedy/comedy actor then a sandler goofball...

he'll be a big name star for a long time coming

wow - was i the only one who hated elf?

anyways, i love wil ferrell - yes, he's a little one-dimansional as an actor - but that's the beauty of him. you know what you're getting.

i just think his last few movies have been - well - "questionable" relative to his prior movies.

he IS the best thing to come out of SNL in the last 10 years - and i don't think it's close

i agree 100%. jim carrey should've done bewitched. as much as i like ferrell and dislike carrey, he was born to play that part. he even looks like one of the seargent yorks.

I hadn't seen any of his movies, and thought the guy could be fun to watch but would just get on my nerves over the course of a movie.

Saw Anchorman last night and was surprised; I liked a lot. I blame a lot of that on funny concepts the writer had, like treating the other news teams like neighborhood punks, not Ferrell's talent being extraordinary all by itself or anything. But Ferrell came to do his job and did it well without outwearing his welcome. Christina Applegate sure didn't hurt, either.

I have Elf in my queue now.

He does have the looks of one of the hubbies and the dorky awkwardness of the other. Kind of an "if they had mated" child of theirs. He would be a natural for the role.
