View Full Version : Big Steve in a Wheel Chair! WTF!

This evening my mother and I were going to the casino. I was driving. It is an election year, so in Mississippi that means fix the potholes and repave the road if you want my vote. I was on a 2 lane road not more than 2 miles from my house, this is one of the roads that has recently been repaved. It has no center yellow lines and no white shoulder line of any kind.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. I was coming around a curve and a full size pickup was coming around from the other side, he was taking the curve wide. He hit me head on, we both caught about 1/4 of each others front end. He hit me with enough force to crush the entire front end of my car and my driver's side wheel well which broke my left tibia and cut me pretty bad in my leg. I also broke a bone in by wrist which makes typing so much fun now.

My mother only has bruises. The guy in the truck has a few bruises from his airbag but nothing major.

I will have to have the cast on my leg for a minimum of 2 months.

Now for the wheel chair. 5 years ago, yesterday as a matter of fact, I shattered my right leg with an accidental discharge of a 357 Magnum round. I had 9 surgeries to put it back together and almost 2 years of physical therapy to learn to walk again. I have 25% Permanent Partial Impairment(PPI) in my right leg. The same doctor that did my right leg just happened to still be doing rounds at the hospital and was called to the emergency room for the arrival of the amulance.

I got my x-rays and they gave me 2 shots and then came the fun part. They had to set it. I now have a cast on my left leg from toes to testicles. Because of my left wrist, I can not use crutches. Because of the PPI in my right leg I can not use crutches.

So I am stuck in this damn Wheel Chair for a minimum of 2 months. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yeesh! One of the things I'd like to avoid is breaking either of my legs. Good luck with the rehab.

Yes I am alive and that is important. And I now have a excuse to wear shorts to work. I think this is Karma bitting me in the ass for this post Link (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2230942&page=&view=&sb=5& o=&vc=1)

I don't know about the insurance. I called the family lawyer when I got home and he is coming to the house in the morning to talk about everything. He said something about the county as well for not striping the road. So god only knows who he has in mind to sue.

Yeah well considering the last time I had a cast on my leg it was the right leg for a year and a half and 9 surguries, 2 months is a "Walk in the Park" /images/graemlins/grin.gif

That sucks Steve, good to hear it was less serious than it could have been.

Better keep wheeling yourself round and lifting weights, or you'll be TalktoHUGEsteve.

Yeah, your wheelchair status totally sucks - if the cast means you cant use your testicles, it double totally sucks. At least it's not permanent.

Get better, and I also think you should get a pink name (unless you rigged this accident to get a sympathy pink name :P )

Yeah the testicles still work, unfortunately I am left handed. /images/graemlins/frown.gif So if I have to "rub one out" I have to learn to switch hit and aim away from the fiberglass.

Yeah I actually have been lifting weights at the hospital gym over the past couple of months. I am sure my doctor can arrange for a Personal Trainer (I hope I get the hot guy that I have seen) to help me for the next couple of months and bill it to Mr. Big Truck.

I sit in front of a computer all day at work too. I don't know how long I will have to take the drugs I have never been a big drug person to begin with. After 2 week on the meds when I had my GSW(Gun Shot Wound) I floored my doctor when I called and asked him if I could cut my Lortab 7.5s in half and just take a tylonol with them.

I would like to be able to work still, I am one of those people that actually loves my job and enjoys the people I work with, even if the do throw their fake titties at me. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Mail the check. If you don't, then shame on you.

I mean seriousy, what is it going to take for you not to smoke? I understand you've gone through some traumatic sh*t recently, but there's an element of mental toughness required for quitting smoking.

My grandfather did not have that toughness in him, and he died of lung cancer and never got to know my brothers.

I wish you good luck in recovery bro, but you need to quit smoking. Only you can make the decision though.

And, once again, mail that check.

I think more than NEEDING the smoke tonight I wanted the smoke tonight. It relaxed me when I was on the front porch with Gregg talking about how close I came to non-existance. I have only had 2, I still have the other 18 here on the dresser, and I have not decided what I am going to do with them. I have bigger things on my mind than my smoking/not smoking issues.

Steve

ClaytonN

Ironic, because your impending non-existence will be sooner than anticipated if you keep smoking.

But if you just needed a couple to chill out, then that's fine

For a broken tibia why would the cast have to go up that high??? Wouldn't that be a femur break???

Good luck with the recovery, and a good thing that injuries weren't worse.

[/ QUOTE ]

No a tibia is connected from the ankle to the knee so you have to immobilize it above and below the break, hence toes to testicles, my femur now moves my entire leg.

Ask anyone who have ever broken their femur how high the cast went, you will be surprised.

I always seem to laugh when bad things happen...

Example: In 1998 I came home to discover that the house had been completely gutted by a fire. After everything was taken care of I was standing with my friend John, looked down at myself and just started laughing. He said, "What is so funny?" and I replied "I just relized I don't have to decide what I am going to wear in the morning." /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Oh I am not knocking it, I am happy to be here. One of my good friends has a spinal injury and he is a champion wakeboarder here in Meridian.

If something would have happened to night and this thing was a done deal forever. I would still be laughing and running down stray toddler in the isles of Wal-Mart and slapping stickers on my Little Rascal. I would want to have it be a special project for Pimp My Ride.

gl Steve. I fractured my scaffoid in my left hand a couple years ago, didn't get it looked at for months, and as a result I needed surgery, a permanent screw in my wrist, and months of a cast on my arm. I can't imagine not being able to walk around. Your attitude regarding this sounds great. Keep it up.

I suggest you come to grips with it, light one up, and send your check to that Christlike preacher up there in Kansas or wherever it was....

<font color="white"> For those of you withour a sense of humor or a memory, I'm refrencing Steve's stop smoking thread. I don't really think God hates fags and I don't want that crazy preacher getting any of Steve's hard earned cash....

In all seriousness...
