After taking a pretty heavy Bad Beat Day in SNG, I'm wondering how many SNGs to play at the 11 level? I'm 19 hardly work, one summer class. What should my goal be? MultiTabling?

60-70 per day if you want to treat it like a job.

Well this is not possible without heavy multitabling. And that is NOT something you should try from the beginning. I'm currently thinking aboout going pro in few monhts (currently building my BR on $5 sngs) and my plan is playing 11s on 4 tables. I want to play 1000 sngs per month. So that would be 40 sngs per day and playing 25 days. Pokerstars sngs last longer.

Meh, too many. I play these for a living and I average maybe 35 a day.

That, I think is a personality issue and also dependent on what levels you play at. The higher limits you play, the less hours you can play.

I shoot for 10 a day. Poker isn't my main source of income though, so do more if it's your paycheck for the summer.

I don't understand what are you saying. I'm thinking about starting my pro poker career, yes. I am confident about my abilities. I don't see where's the problem. Please, explain.

i shoot for 1000 sngs a month which breaks down to about 50 a day/5 days a week. many times i will take "long weekends" and play as much as 100 in a day to get caught up.

I realize that. So I'm definetly not 100% sure that I would really be as successful as I hope to be. Currently I make enough for living even playing 5.5s. And I DID say in few months. My ROI at 5.5s (and few 11s) is huge, no need to even mention it after only 200 played. I have no idea what my real ROI is, but I will find that only by playing, isn't that right? And my plans for future is to be a poker pro. yes. I don't think that fact makes me cocky? We all have plans for future. Somehow having a plan of going pro in poker makes you cocky...

I guess you're right.

All these idiots are just so stupid.

I play the 5s. And I'm ITM 75% of the time or more.

GOODBYE JOB! HELLO WPT!!!

I play these for a living also, and I used to play 10 per day, but now I am upping it to 25. I 3 table so 25 is about 6 hours per day. I may cut that back a little soon...more time for fun /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

"That, I think is a personality issue and also dependent on what levels you play at. The higher limits you play, the less hours you can play."

Definately. I play sets these days and hate doing more than 2-3 in a row (so I spread it out over the day).

Higher stakes = less hours.
More tables = less hours.

If I managed to 12 table the 109s for 10% roi I'd still only play enough to make 2k a week (which is like 1.5hrs a day with those stats). I'm trying to 10+ table with serious overlap in order to cut down my hours (to 3 sets a day). Then again poker is a shorterm thing for me.

I wouldn't be so harsh. These guys have seen just so many wannabe pro's. They're just warning us, that we should stay realistic.

Your goal at this point should be to realize 40%+ ITM with a ROI of +12% over 500 events.

If you can achieve that in a week, terrific! More likely it will take a couple of months of serious play (2 tables only).

If not, start the numbers over and do it again (and again) until you learn enough to feel confident that you can beat the $11's for a profit each and every month while 2-tabling.

Then, you can think about 4-tabling and go to 1000 a month. Unless you have a shiny new luck-box, you will have a terrible time reaching this goal by August. Post your honest results August 15th and you'll see what I mean.

Better to learn the game, ask questions and play like a pro on 1 table than jump in and play like an idiot on four....

Just a humble opinion from a profitable Slacker

How does taking a bad beat day lead into how many to play per day?

This, as usual in poker is a simple mathematical problem. How much money do you think you need/want to earn a month. Let's say it's $1,000. So, if you're going to play the $11s, it breaks down like this.

If your skill level is (in ROI terms)
30% - 303 SNGs a month
20% - 454 a month
10% - 909 a month

If you cannot do the corresponding math to figure out how many per day, then you should quit poker now, and save yourself the money and anguish.

I guess he was asking how many SnGs should he play each month to overcome the pure luck factor. The more you play, the more realistic your results are.
Obviously your way is the right way. That is how I was thinking, too. The problem for us who only start playing seriously is, that we don't know what our real ROI is, because we still haven't played enough. After 200 SNGs I'm having over 50% ITM. But I realize 200 is close to nothing.

Thanks for pointing this out. Just got back into heavy SNG action this past month. I must be running pretty good as I only play in the evening and always thought the only ones who make these lists play 100 a day as you say. On Empire, I'm currently 85th for the month.

No, I'm back to playing STT almost exclusively. I've played about 250 55s this month (40 ITM/20 ROI). I've been trying to catch up with all the theory this forum has produced over the last year as I haven't been here much. Seeing it all, I would say no forum has contributed more original stuff to poker theory than this one.

That, and I'm just sick to death of the bubble suckouts in MTT. It's much easier on my nerves to bubble 4th in a STT on some sick beat than it is to slug for four hours and then lose to a 2 outer in a MTT. I still play MTT, but if I have four tables open, it's usually 1 MTT to 3 STT. Of course, I always play KotZ (shameless plug: PLO tonight!).

TRDI,

The best advice I can give you is to get out of the 5s now. Move up to the 10s and reduce the rake from 20% to 10 %. The games would have to be much much worse to overcome paying what is esentially double rake.

I would be shocked if your ROI went down. I am close to certain your hourly rate will increase. With only $220 you can survive a 20 buyin downswing at the 10s.

He plays the 5.5's on what I would guess is Pokerstars. So there's no rake reduction moving up.

Gisborne,

How do we know he means Pokerstars? Certainly Raptor and others referred to Empire/Party when responding to this guys's posts.

Regardless, if he is playing the 5s on Party/skins move to 10s now. If on Pokerstars, keep plugging away and good luck on your journey to "pro" status.

I am comfortable at the moment just no more than 3 hours a day which is close to 20 tourn (four tabling). Guess with the family life and full time job all I can squeeze out if that.
