The only thing he could have here besides KT or QT A9 or something is a busted flush draw.

Highly unlikely he would have the audacity to attempt to check/raise the river if he had a jack.

I think so. You bet the turn, he didn't raise, so he likely does not have a J. If he does and is counting on check raising the river, it's a riskly play on his part. The 6 could not have helped his hand, so you should bet.

I've recently found myself checking in these situations (middle pair top kicker) to a brick on the river when leading the whole hand, but I really believe it's a mistake.
