I was taking the bus home today, and a younger (early 20s) black woman and her 3-4 year-old daughter sat in front of me. The mother was very frantic and couldn't keep still. She wasn't fidgety, just very high strung.

Anyways, she keeps shouting on the phone to some people telling them where on the bus line she is. Later, a friend of hers (white girl the same age) hops on the bus. She's carrying an empty purse (a medium sized one) with nothing in it. The black woman asks if "it" will fit.

The black woman is carrying $150 in cash, and the white girl doesn't show any. The white girl is much more relaxed and cool than the black woman.

So, where are they going? What are they buying?

I will answer any questions as best I can.

This is kind of like a hand reading exercise, but for the poker mind.

GO GO GO GO GO!

fnord_too
06-20-2005, 01:37 PM
Is "it" something $150 can buy? Is "it" a discrete item (like a VCR) or a quantity of items (so the only question is how many or much can you buy for $150). Is there any ilegality in the transactions (my guess would be no, but who knows?)

jakethebake

I assumed she was buying the three year old.

Does the woman being frantic have anything to do with a medical issue? (Daughter or her had an accident, that kind of stuff?) Or with a legality issue (Whatever she's buying with the $150 is illegal and needs to be hidden in the purse?)

And on a sidenote. Did you actually stalk these people to find out the answers to these questions yourself or did they just talk about it openly on the bus?

No medical issues, no accidents, etc.

No I did not stalk them, they openly said what "it" was.

Actually I have enough info to take a stab. The item is being bought for $150. The item doesn't come with it's own bag so the purse is needed for transporting it on the bus ride home. Further it is legal or they wouldn't have told you what it was.

This points to a small pet of some type.

A small pet is reasonable but CERTAINLY would not be allowed on the bus.

Besides, we've already established the child wasn't excited.

Another hint: The girl kept asking for her daddy.

It wasn't established directly, but she was one the with the empty purse.

Answering the 2nd question gives too much away given the rest of the responses.

The answer was cartons of cigarettes.

150 bucks is enough for a few cartons.

She was fiending, therefore high strung.

The bag was big enough for cigarettes.

I don't know, kinda dumb, but at least I got you OOTers thinking for a couple minutes.

BOO

now i know why i stopped trying

i think the overdramatization towards the white woman meeting her on the bus, coupled with the fact that it wasn't actually an "it" but a "they", made it nearly impossible

it was fun for a bit though

The point was that you guys think too hard and sometimes fail to see what is right in front of you.

That is what poker will do to you.

Sometimes you know you're beat, but you'll think of fantastical reasons and situations for you to keep calling.
