Playing 2-4 limit at Potawatomi casino (Milwaukee). To try to loosen up, as I tend to play a little tight, last Friday I decided that any time something out of the ordinary happened--like the burn card got turned up, or I accidentally knocked over my chips--if the pot was unraised--I would play my hand no matter what. Usually I held something like 6-3, 8-3, 10-2, all off suit.

Every time I did this it seemed the flop was rags, except that it hit me completely. The flop was so ugly, my hand was well disguised, and by slow playing I won monster pots.

On the other hand, I lost with pocket 10s, pocket Jacks, and a full house. The guy next to me lost with Aces and Kings. We joked that we could win more and lose less by playing small cards instead of big.

Has anyone ever tried this? What do you think?

it cant work in the long run.
but for a few hours at the casion where you dont plan on winning, why not.
but then again, you become the person were all trying to beat.

If your opponents are really paying attention to you this can be a good thing. After they see you playing something like 63o, they will immediately peg you as loose and you will sometimes get action on your big hands. If you are constantly knocking over your stack though I wouldn't do this but making a rare play like this is at worst not very -EV in the long run (especially if you are playing fit or fold on the flop).

A random play on occassion isn't going to make or break you. It would really depend on how clumsy you and the dealer are.

If you're playing something like that more than once an hour, then you're hurting yourself. If it's once every four or five hours, I don't think it will really matter *THAT* much. You're looking at an error on the order of 1/4-1/2 SB every couple hundred hands (.0625-.125 BB/100). But you get a meta-game bonus at a live casino because people play with you for much longer and they will remember the nonsense hands you show down for the entire session (and even more if you play regularly).

There's a hint of superstition in your post, but I'll pretend it's not there. Superstition tends to lose money in the long run.
