I really thought about calling the turn bet but I thought that there were so many hands that had me beat. Any 7 or T has me crushed, plus the possible straight, add in that he was BB and I'm confused.

Probably a lot better than what I do in this case, which is call down.

I presume a lot of it is read dependent, but my experience tells me that rare is the case where I'm beating a SnG here.

I'm not sure what raising this flop really accomplishes

I agree with this, but if you're going to raise the flop, and you gain an additional draw on the turn, why fold now?
