Returning to the home court Sunday the SPM was able to clock an early win after only six and half hours. Thankful the marathon poker weekend was over and he would finally get a good nights sleep. The Suburban Poker Wife needed the SPM to show some ID before she would allow him back into the house. It seems he had been gone so long she had forgotten what he looked like. They got reacquainted with each other an life is back to normal. Negotiations are being discussed, so the SPM can play in Mondays game.
Could someone please tell me why? Watching the perpetual calling stations last night was mind boggling. These very nice gentlemen were in 90 per cent of the hands. They would rush to a chip lead of staggering proportions only to give it all back. Then like clock work they would rebuild their empire of chips to become kings of the hill once again. Of course by the time the SPM left they were near the felt again. What is their motivation? It seems the thought of leaving with a win never crossed their minds.
An Asian friend of the SPM's, Tony the Tiger came up with a constant for Texas Hold'em. It goes like this, if five Asian's are in a game, four will take the flop two will see the river and the pot will always be big. What other constants and are close to the truth in Texas Hold'em.
Constants, or Myths you choose...
1. The all in man will win 87% of the time.
2. When a maniac straddles the blinds he will win the hand 73% of time.
3. The computer hand wins 80% of the time.
4. When a solid player tells you he was in a great game, 93% of the time he clocked a loser.
5. Any player losing with Pocket Aces, will always confirm he never wins with them.
6. A named hand will always win the pot. Examples of named hands, Montana Banana 92, Jack Benny 39, Jane Mansfield 45, San Francisco Waiter Q3, Big Slick AK, Jackson Five J5 etc.. You may say you have seen someone somewhere win a pot with a hand that has no name. Well that's fuzzy thinking. All hands have a name, if you don't know the name of the winning hand, it's called the nuts.
7. The, "They People," will always beat you on the river.
8. The cards have no respect for talent. (A Wee Willie quote)
9. You lose 68% of your hands to gut straights and four card flushes on the river.
10. An early raise will attract more callers because the pot odds are increased.
11. In very, very, very tight games, no one will admit to being a rock.
Your turn, what Constants, or Myths do you know, please share...
SPM,...play long and prosper...
