around christmas i put $500 on the lakers to win $3000 for the championship.
at canbet.com, the line on lakers vs field is +375 (lakers) and -525 (all others).
if i place a bet for $2625 on the field, does that mean that if lakers win i win 375, and if lakers lose i'm even?

It means if you bet any amount of money, divide it by 5.25 and you will get the amount you will win. If you bet the Lakers, multiply what you bet by 3.75 to get what you could win. So in this case your potential bet is exactly as you say it. If the Lakers win you will get $375 and break even if anyone else wins.
