Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 6s 5c 4h
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
7d 5d 442 44.65 524 52.93 24 2.42 0.459
Qs Qc 524 52.93 442 44.65 24 2.42 0.541

Do you say that QQ is a 2.93 % favourite in this hand, a 52.93% favourite, a 4.1% favourite or what do you say? I just read a chat where a guy said that 57d was a -2 % favourite...

I would appriciate if someone could straighten out the correct mathematical definition about the use of "favourite to win".

Favorites are usually expressed in odds rather than percentage, so I would say QQ is a 524-to-442 favorite, or a 52.93-to-44.65 favorite. To convert this to percentage, take 524/(524 + 442) = 54.2% favorite. This is the same as the EV column, though I think EV is a misnomer here. You could also take 52.93% - 44.65% = 8.28% and say QQ has an 8.28% edge. This means that he will win 8.28% of the money he bets.

I think EV is slightly different. It's (524 + 24/2)/990 = 536/990 = 0.54141, where 524 are the winning hands and 24 are the tying hands. If one player is all-in and there is $1,000 in the pot, Q's expected value is $541.41, 75's is $458.59.

thx guys. I had a feeling that a lot of people misuse the " favourite to win" term. I think I will stick with the odds variant so I don't mix up the numbers.
