I'm going to do the $1000 rebuy event and am curious if they have a display or announce periodically what the average or largest/smallest chip counts are in the tournament?

Thanks

I've played in only one event but they never did this until I busted which was right after we made the money. They hardly even updated the number of players left until the 2nd or 3rd break. Just play your table. Nobody else matters. Good luck.

The only reason I really care about the "average" stack is that it is a rebuy event and I'm really only bringing enough money for one rebuy (extra $1000). I don't know exactly how this will affect when I rebuy, but I figure there are 3 places to rebuy if I can only do it once:

1). I bust out before 2 hours.
2). Immediately after I pay my first blind.
3). Play very tight aggressive and wait until the add-on after 2 hours to rebuy.

Thoughts?

i think you have to do a mandatory $1k addon at the end of the rebuy period, so just an extra grand won't leave you enough to have one rebuy.

it's just not a great idea to play a re-buy event if you can't afford to re-buy.
you are sacrificing too much EV.

To play a rebuy event such as that one I would want at least $4k or so that I would have very little problem parting with.
$5k-$6k would be better.

But at least with $4k you've got a re-buy at the beginning...another re-buy if you fall below the minimum (assuming there is a minimum) and then DEFINITELY the add-on (assuming it is enough chips to be +EV which it probably is).

With only $2k I would look to see if there's a $1500 freeze-out event or something during that time.
I would HIGHLY recommend playing that instead.

Don't play. Seriously. Don't play a rebuy tourney unless you have enough for several rebuys + addon. Otherwise, you are putting yourself at a serious disadvantage.

Not correct. There is no mandatory rebuy or addon in these events. They are both entirely optional. So, you can make just the initial buyin and nothing else if you wish.

As for the advise to not play in it, I believe that advice is mistaken.

If 1000 people enter this tournament, and the average player takes 3 rebuys/addons, then it is the same thing as a 4000 player tournament without rebuys. If you were going to not rebuy or addon, then you could play this event, but YOU would be playing in the equivalent of a 4000 player tournament, whereas I (assuming I am going to rebuy and addon as much as possible) will be playing in the 1000 player tournament.

In the WSOP, you are always going to get chips equal in count to the cost of your buyin or rebuy or addon. There are no bonus chips for the rebuys or addons (which is very common in other rebuy tournaments in other casinos). That being the case, there is no mathematical disadvantage to not rebuying. You are not passing up any opportunities to buy "cheap" chips. You are merely entering a cheaper tournament with a larger field than the guy who rebuys and adds on.

I feel like I mangled this post a bit, as it doesn't feel like it came out very smoothly, but I hope you get the idea.

Cool thanks man, I've never thought of it that way before.
