Last night I held the exact same hand (suits and ranks) 4 times.

If I play 250 hands in an average session of B&M poker, how many sessions before I can expect that to happen again?

Hopefully, next time it will be a better hand than the 3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 2 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif that I kept getting last night.

It's uncommon, but not rare. It should happen about once every 17 sessions.

Out of 250 hands, you expect to get 207 hands once, 19 hands twice and 1 hand three times. One session in 17 you get four or more of the same hand.

By the way, if you count two hands as the same that are equivalent in hold'em, meaning the same ranks and either suited or not suited, then in 250 deals, out of the 169 hands you expect to: get 49 hands zero times, get 51 hands once, 34 hands twice, 19 hands three times, 10 hands four times, 4 hands five times and 2 hands six times each.

If you play every night, you'll get the same hand seven times about every other session, the same hand eight times about once a week, the same hand nine times about once a month, the same hand ten times a couple or three times a year and the same hand eleven times every other year.
