Quick question - how many hands do you have to play to make sure that your BB/100 is accurate, I have 22K hands played at 3/6 with 2.6/100 - is the a suffecinet sample to base a decision to move up on (bankroll aside). Your thoughts are appeciated. (note I was playing before however was not using PT so did not have precise numbers) - Thanks

Depends on who you ask.

I say around 50K. Alot of players say 100K

unfortunately, unless you play a couple hundred thousand hands you won't be sure of your winrate within +/- 1 BB/100. that means you're going to have to get good at diagnosing your own play, and take some shots and hope for the best, moving down if you feel outclassed. poker is unlike other games in that there's no surefire way of knowing how good you are. it all comes from within.

Good post and, unfortunately, very true. Wish it weren't this way, moving up in limits would be so much more clear cut.

This is why you need a lot of heart to play poker! Do you have heart power?

If your standard deviation is typical, you have a 95% confidence interval of about +/- 2.2 BB/100
Which means that there is less than 2.5% chance that you are actually a losing player running hot.
I'd say, if you are itching to move up, designate a shot bankroll or a pain threshhold, and take a shot at higher limit
