dell 8600 problem "system modultor"

i had a window that said i needed a windows update and had to restart. i did and when i restarted again, it says that my device in the system modulator bay cannot be indentified.
any help?

I already know its the device in the "modular" bay (his cd/dvd drive) but i'm waiting for him to not be retarded.
