Just wondering what % of the flops I should be seeing... I played alot of hold'em... In holdem I would have a 17% VP$P should I be lower In omaha/8? Right now after about 800 hands I'm at 16%

What to play and how often

Here’s some crude math, on how often you’ll be dealt these hands, and what hands to play:

7.2% Any A2
5.4% About 75% of the A3xx
1.8% About 25% of the 23xx holdings
1% About 50% of the “4 cards A-T” holdings
1.3% About 50% of the AAxx
1.1% Any A45
1.1% About 50% of the Ax suited w 2 cards K-T, where x is anything

That’s about 20%. Then I’ll complete in the SB and call 1 bet from the BB with some other weaker hands in larger pots, like As4xx, KsKxx, 9JTQs, QQ24, 2457s, etc.

So, that’s a VPIP of about 24% or so, which is about right for a solid winning player playing against somewhat loose bad opponents.

Looser than that and I think your overall expectation goes down somewhat against good play, but it’s very table dependent. You can play looser up to around 35-38% and still be a winner if you play well postflop and your opponents are loose/bad. And you need to tighten up from that against a good tight table, or if you don't play so well postflop.

Very nice analysis. I'm at about 18.5% VPIP over 2800 hands and showing a good value at $100 PLO 8/b, but I think I will loosen up a bit more (A3xx specifically, and A-T suited hands as well) and experiment. Thank you!
