i think i agree. if for no other reason than that i could never bring myself to play like that. it takes some moxy, and it takes a desire to really want to read your opponents and play your opponents rather than just the cards. its really fun to watch, and im sure it makes poker a lot more interesting to play.

Ivey has amazing concentration when he is both in a hand and not. He doesn't let his emotions get caught up to interfere with his gameplay most times and I believe that is why he is such a fearsome player.

I believe once a player has clocked x amount of hours, has a proven winrate, and has read the books they are "supposed' to read, that after that what seperates them is really their temprement and persona.

If I could concentrate like Ivey I'm sure I would be a winning player instead of a losing noob. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hellmuth.

Quote from Barry Greeinstein: "When Phil has his banter and his A-game working, he not only can control the table, but he can mesmerize the entire room."

Disclaimer: I think he is an ass just like everyone else. But I respect his game.

source?

Personal friend who just came back from LV. (whom as myself is a long-time personal friend of Gus)
Gus said it was no secret.

Let me add that the debt in question is being used to play, not that he owes money he can't pay back.

Itg sounds like your asking tournament superstars as everybody is picking tourney guys. So for tournaments i will say Phil Ivey, Layne Flack, Eric Seidel. Honerable mention Eric Lindgren, Freddy Deeb(nobody ever mentions him but he seems to always be there in big nl events usually for 2nd or 3rd). I don't know what he does but he does somthing right. He doesn't seem very likeable though. But you can't deny his results.

I like Phil Hellmuth & Gus Hansen. Both of these players have the ability to read others incredibly well. Phil's special is making huge laydowns (usually the right ones) and Gus' is making huge calls with little (again, he's usually ahead or has odds to do so, most other players just don't follow through).

He has to be a little likeable--his ex-wives are always in the audience when he makes the final table.

I did mean tourney players who are "super stars"--not strictly Poker Superstars--sorry.

Also, can I change my vote to Gabe Kaplan, too?

Negreanu, Hansen, Flack, Unger, Esfandiari and even Tuan Le. Anybody who wins with unorthodox LAGgy play, and mediocre hole cards. Their style is similar to mine, so these are the guys I try to learn from.

Barry Greensteins...He was a computer/math wizard and when his wife and daughter became very ill he confidently told his insurance company that he'd pay his own way. Thus playing highstakes poker fulltime!
