i'll be in vegas partying downtown on valentine's day weekend. staying at the greatest hotel/casino, the gold spike. heh.

won't make it to the strip much, but want to know where the best poker is downtown for low limits. $4/8, $5/10?

thanks in advance

I'm so sorry.

I would go to Binion's for the LL.

sorry? why? it was great last year. you can get away with anything there. downtown rocks. no dumb tourists or family vacationers looking for disneyland in vegas. the rooms are clean and cheap. booze flows freely. close to the el cortez and their $1 craps. i love it.

i've just never played poker in vegas, so thanks for the tip.

If you like the craps at the El Cortez, you might want to check out their poker too. The $1-$3 hold'em ($1-$6 on river) with a single $1 blind can be a real fun game at times. Their poker comp includes a tip for the waitress (not something you see everyday).

Corona comes in a can, the dealers are like something out of a TV sitcom, and the ice cream at the deli counter is to die for. Who needs the water ballet of the Bellagio? Give me The El Cortez or give me death!

Of course Binion's rocks too.

Have fun on your trip.

yah, last year, i didn't get a chance to sit down at the poker table at el cortez. it was funny that it was just set up there like another blackjack or paigow table or something.

the el cortez is definitly one of my favorite places to gamble and drink.

i'll definitly hit binions, and i'll see if i can make it downtown to the mirage or bellagio.

The Plaza used to have a low roller poker room, but
my last visit found one lonely stud game going along
with a bunch of "asian games". Their lounge act still
makes the Plaza worth a stop tho.

As others have mentioned, El Cortez has one table going
in the midst of their low roller BJ games, and El Cortez
is a place everyone should experience once, where the CW's
dont't tout "cocktails" like most joints, but the unique
"El Cortez buy you a drink?".

good luck

That's because most of them are old enough to have known him personally.

.. well, obviously not for poker, but for an overall gambling experience, I've seen too many sick tip hustling dealers and customer-service-lacking floormen at the 'Shoe for my tastes.

Now that Binion's doesn't offer big odds on its craps game anymore, they're no better than any other dice table, and in fact a good deal worse if you ask me ...

... which was when the hotel was also built, by Alley Oop and Fred Flintstone.

.... with $2.50 roast beef dinners, why walk any than the lunch counter at your Hotel ?

(Jeez, I thought the Gold Spike rooms rented by the trick.)

Has the Western put in a poker table yet?

The Western should put in a 1/2 HE, or maybe
a 50 cent/$2 spread limit stud game. The walk
down Fremont late at night between El Cortez and
the Western to scout the games would be, ah priceless.

You are staying at the Gold Spike ? Although there actually is a poker table at the Gold Spike, I can't recall ever seeing a game there.
