When this TAG 3bets me on the flop I go in to call-down mode without improving.

Given that he 3bet you and a cold-caller preflop his hand range is pretty tight - TT-AA/AK/AQ/AJs maybe.

When he 3bets the flop again you're looking at a probable AK/A/images/graemlins/club.gifJ-Q/images/graemlins/club.gif/AA/KK/JJ. Add in a 10% chance that he's pulling a stunt with 99/TT/QQ/AJo and you've got odds to call down, since the pots too big to fold.

With that said, I think you are behind here often.

I think this is fine, I might not cap the flop though. THe only questionable thing is the flop cap. Your hand looks like AK or something since you capped, and he still 3bets you. So I think he either has AK (6 combos), JJ (3 combos), KK (1 combo), AA (3 combos), JK (6 combos but might not 3bet preflop), KQ (6 combos), or something like AcTc or AQc. All in all its probably close since he can't 5 bet and there is 3rd person in.

What do you put villain on when he 3bets the flop? Would it still be "well played" if hero had gotten check-raised on the turn?

Had he called down from that point, yes.

I put him on a much wider range of hands than KK, JJ, 55 and KJ. If he checkraises the turn, I narrow that range.

Edit: I suppose what we disagree on is what we narrow it down to preflop. I think he might be more liberal than you think.
