Whats up all, I loaned my copy of SSH to a friend but I am fairly sure the starting requirements are a bit different in GSIH than SSH. Playing jts in ep is one example where ssh says play it in tight games while the other waits for mid. Also I see alot more preflop reraising hands in GSIH like AJs and TT I am wondering why the later published book is different in this way and which should be adhered to.

SSH is more advanced, and the preflop recommendations are very rough. Ed assumes we will modify his recommendations based on the game we are playing. The theoretical preflop section in SSH is really good, and that should be your main guide. I haven't read GSIH, but I've heard it is more of a beginner book, so Ed has probably decided to use more conservative preflop recommendations to help keep the noob out of too much trouble.

SSHE is for a player who is ready to becoming a significantly winning player, and teaches a tight/agressive strategy designed to exploit the mistakes of your average low-limit player to the fullest.

GSIH, on the other hand, teaches players how to become competitive in low-limit hold 'em without getting into too many difficult situations that a new player will have a tough time handling. So while the advice given could still be considered tight/agressive, it's tighter and less agressive than that in SSHE.

I'm going to Vegas with two people in a few weeks. One has never played hold 'em in her life; I'm going to give her GSIH to help get her feet wet, not SSHE. The other has gone to the casino a couple times, and I'll probably give him SSHE since I've taught him a little bit about hand selection and agressive play before.
