I am not sure if the “pot commit” steal has been coined under another name, so educate me if it has. I consider a “pot commit” steal to be basically the same as a push steal (any 2 cards) except for not pushing your whole stack (duh). e.g.
Blinds 100/200
Player 1 t1800, SB
Player 2 t2000, BB
Player 3 t2900
Hero t1300
Player 3 fold, you raise to t1000, effectively committing you to the hand. If anyone puts you all in, you obviously call.
So, you may ask, why not push your whole stack if you are going to call anyway? I have two answers to this question -
1. I do push preflop when I think the players left to act fear a push.
2. I pot commit preflop when I think the players left to act respect a “raise” more than a push.
At the end of the day, I don’t want to be called, so I am looking for the most effective way to fold the rest of the field. I generally find that the very loose players, seem to respect the “raise” more than the push, however might just be my experience.
I would appreciate some feedback/discussion on this, or a redirect to another link, if it has already been discussed.
