Stars $5.50 (Moving back down for bankroll reasons after a terrible run of cards). Second hand. Is this river worth a raise?

I would just call here. Such a scary board when that 8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif hits that I would hate a re-raise on the river.

I would say his river bet is either a blocking bet or a value bet; In either case I don't see him calling a raise unless you're beat. Just my humble newbie-like opinion...
Firstly, I think the calling with q9s in mp3 is pretty fishy.
No, I do not "value" raise the river since both the flush and boat draw hit.

Yeah, I know, I know- I read that post earlier... so exactly what hands that are better here are folding? A small flush? Anyone who played for a flush with those odds on the turn certainly isn't.
Then again there's a 75% chance I'm completely missing the inside joke and will continue to get flamed... /images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have to disagree here. In a 1500 chip SNG, you have plenty of chips to play speculative hands early. The way his opponents played this hand should make it clear why there's value in playing a hand like Q9s in level 1.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

The post title / preface was a bit of a joke. I meant to post a hand where, in fact, it was incorrect to raise because you only get called if you are beat.
Actually my real river decision is whether to call or fold. I think I'm up against AJ/JT or whatever too often to fold.
He had 8888 - I would have gotten paid off big if a scare card didn't hit /images/graemlins/mad.gif

20 chips with 75 BB stacks.... meh. I really don't think it matters if I can get away from a naked queen easily.

Durron, if you raise here, who is going to call? Furthermore, you definately want to see a showdown here, so if villain reraises your value raise, that is gonna raise some concerns.
