I recently came back from a 4 day trip to the taj, and saw my least favorite regular go on a winning streak that made me want to vomit. I think he owns three shirts, one which read, "I'm with [censored] -->," one that says "your village called, they are missing thier village idiot," and one that says "g- f-ck y--rs-lf, would you like to buy a vowel?" On top of this, his edicit at the table is horrible. Needless to say, he is trying to get under other players skin, and I tell you, he does. Does anyone think this type of image/behavior gives a player any real advantage over his oppenents? I do notice some players take his additude personal, and they do tend to try to pick him off with hands they may normally not get involved with. Comments?

if theyre giving him more action than they would if he wasnt that bad, i guess you could say it's working for him, couldnt you? hes making them play different than they normally would. in fact, by what you say, he's making them play worse. why change his act?

one thing i do, if this is a regular, is study how he plays. and how the table reacts to him. you can find advantages in this. they may not be keeping track of you and what youre doing. this may open up other plays. look beyond the shell of his act and learn a little. even if you dont 'condone' it, you can learn quite a bit not only about this player and how to play him, but the others on the table too. if he's rattling you, it's your problem, not his. and he's winning the psyche war. ignore it, even if you have to bite down, and channel your resentment to learning how he plays.

i like his vowel shirt though...

I'll be honest with you, this sort of thing would bother me too, when a player was winning and even if he would sit there with a little smile it would irate me to no end. If he was talking it would still upset me even more. I used to go on tilt against this type of person, but now it's funny that you bring this sort of thing up.

You just can't let it bother you, as much as your stomach is churning because this guy is winning and sometimes he sets people up on tilt, let him. Just do yourself the favor and don't get involved with him unless you find yourself in a favorable situation.

I've seen it so many times when I'm playing a tight 10-20 or even a tight 5-10 game which I shouldn't even be in, in the first place, when a maniac sits down or even someone tries raising and reraising every hand, how quickly the whole table would go on tilt. I'm guilty of this tilt too, but now I could care less, I don't let it bother me. I just like to find a profitable situation and that's the way you should be looking at it.

Now let's say that it comes down to you and this other guy in a hand, have a hand to show down against him, play your A game, if you differ from it then you can find yourself down some chips because you are making it a personal confrontation with this person.

If it really really still bothers you, get up and leave, find another game, the TAJ has many tables, or go upstairs and get yourself something to eat maybe a cup a coffee and comeback when you are ready.

LOL. I know this guy you are talking about (I think)...maybe early 40's...he also has a shirt that says "Just because You have one (a dick) doesn't mean you have to be one" with an arrow pointing down or something. If we are talking about the same player, he is TIGHT and does get kinda cranky sometimes. Usually plays 10 or 15 right? Likes to play dice on occassion? How often do you get down to Taj?

I think I know who you're talking about as well. His name is Jeff, and he (at least used to) live in Maryland, where he used to run one of the "firehouse casinos" when they were legal.

He's a jerk, and unless his game has changed over the past couple years, I'm guessing he's a slight loser in any of the mid-limit games.

We all know that pretty much everyone named Jeff is a dork, right? haha.

His name is Jeff, and yeah he is a serious character. However I did notice that a lot of the more aggresive players in the game were getting invloved with him an aweful lot, and usually with the worst of it. I have to admit I do get a little bit of a kick out of him, and he does take advantage of his image rather well. I'd like to know where he does his shopping. Jeffage I get down to the taj once or twice a month.

That's a great answer. I'm a wordy guy, but I've got nothing to add.
