Hand 11 - Moncada has the button in seat 2, Moncada raises to $18,000, Traniello reraises to $57,000, and Moncada reraises enough to put Traniello all in, and Traniello calls. Moncada shows As-10s, while Traniello has pocket sevens (7s-7d). It's a race situation, and the flop comes Qh-7h-3h, and Traniello has flopped a set. Moncada needs a runner-runner straight to win, or a runner-runner flush on the board to chop. The turn card is the Js, and Moncada can now catch one of four kings to win this pot. The river card is the Ac, and Marco Traniello doubles up in chips.

Boy, talk about a couple of guys not respecting each other's raises! I know there's some steal re-steal stuff there, but I would think the rest of the table was probably a little surprised to see that neither of them had a HUGE hand. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Note I said possible, not that it happened. When it got to 3 handed, they took an unscheduled 10 minute break, I imagine to discuss a deal.

Good luck!

Very short-stacked though. I wish the best. Going to have to stand up with a hand soon.

From Pokertrails:

Moncada's button. Cossio limps in the SB, Hudak checks in the BB. The flop is 2d 4d 5s, and Cossio bets 30k. Hudak raises the size of the pot, making it 92k more, and Cossio quickly moves all-in. Hudak calls. As Qd for Cassio, 3h 4s for Hudak. Turn is the 7h, river is the Ah. Cossio is out in 3rd, taking $79,490.

I'm assuming that he was trying to c-raise the AQ preflop...I'd be interested to see his thinking on that.

But congrats on the bronze medal

Great job, Sirio... but, umm, why the limp? Wasn't watching all the hands... was BB pushing back on limps?

He was playing with those guys for a long time. He obviously had a reason for limping with AQ, and it just didn't work out.

FANTASTIC job! Nice payday! Can't wait to watch on TV.

Yep, that was the idea, he was the chip leader, I was pretty sure he was going to raise 3 handed, and I dont want to win just the blind, I took the risk and fail, after the flop, I just can't fold. This hand is gonna haunt me for a long time.

As you can imagine I'm pretty dissapointed, I think I played poorly short-handed after the break, obviously I have no cards at all, but still I should have raised with the garbage I had when possible. And the last hand I think it was a mistake most probably, my idea was he's raising the pot, and he's not calling my reraise AI, and even if he calls I should be a favorite. Too much to learn, too much to learn.

It's unfortunate it ended up the way it did, but you played really solidly to get to that point.

It won't do any good to dwell on the bad, because you just made a great cash score, got to be on TV, and you got your whole life ahead of you to nab a bracelet. Today just wasn't your day.

Very very well done!

Edward Moncada aka ebolivia on PS and Bolivian on 2+2 wins Event #11.

Runner-up is Steve Hudak, friend of Tyler Durden.

Third, Mr. Cossio. GJ's all around. Lots of 2+2 love in this event.

That is an absolutely sick call given the circumstances.

[/ QUOTE ]

Look at the chip count right after. It looks like this is one where Ed either folds and has ~60k left and is in bad shape or calls and has ~160k in solid shape if he wins.

ClaytonN
06-15-2005, 02:39 AM
I think it's more like ~180k if he wins and ~65k if he folds. Blinds are 4k-8k at that point so I can understand his call since he invested a third of his stack at that point.

That said, Freddy could have pushed with many hands, but a lot could beat third pair. You can think it through and make the best decision, but when the cameras are rolling and a tournament veteran sets you in and you have third pair...

The real intrigue in the hand is Freddy's river raise. That ought to have set off some alarm bells, because a lot of made hands are just calling the river. You'd think Moncada would call for the rest of his chips with top pair in that scenario, so what's Deeb's range of hands and what does he put Moncada on?

Congrats, David... Nice work finishing 3rd! I can imagine you feel disappointed for not claiming the bracelet. Just let it sink in for a few days and you'll have a different view of your achievement. There'll be another final table for you during WSOP 2005, I can feel it coming...

OK, whatever, close enough. I agree that this is not an easy spot. But Ed is playing for the big money and the bracelet. I imagine he obv. had a read Freddy wasn't strong, but he's also looking at most likely results. If he folds, most likely the same result as he calls and loses - next one out. But if he calls and is right, everything changes. Again, this is not easy by any means, but imo this kind of attitude is what it takes to be a top tourney player.

sirio11
06-15-2005, 06:51 AM
He should have some kind of read on Freddy, I was surprised he folded in another spot, when he was short stacked, he raised the pot and Freddy came over the top; I was pretty sure Edward was calling since he have the odds and with his stack if he commited a good shunk of his chips he was surely playing for the rest, but he folded !!

He was the one guy I feared the most at the final table, I really want him to lost the 1st big pot A8-KK vs the Japanese guy but it was his night.

I really respect his game. For sure, he was playing to win, Edward was my 2nd pick to win (after me of course); he played great poker, and he deserves the victory.

Excellent performance, David.

I posted in a thread about Ed's win that I felt you guys (the final 5 players, in particular) were all outstanding. I was actually in the stands for every hand at the final table and really enjoyed watching you play.

Just got really unlucky on that last hand. Steve had one of the few hands that could really screw you.

Great job - congratulations.
