I think preflop this is supposed to be a fold normally but MP3's play justified this raise. No read on SB. The fact that no one does anything on the turn makes me think they don't have flush, set, nothing like that. Raise the river?

Bets on the river from out of nowhere into 2 players generally aren't hands like A8, J10. No idea what SB has but it's usually 2 pair or better.

Given that, I don't raise and fold to a 3 bet. The raise itself doesn't seem to be +EV in my experience, let alone the possibility of being 3 bet. I just call the river bet. Heck with some players you could fold that river for the one bet.

MP3's call is interesting, probably doesn't have you beat but he might. MP3 might be afraid of the straight/flush from SB.

Also- regarding the preflop play, I almost always 3 bet there.

ok i give up... if sb missed and is making a desperation bluff then he probably wont call. If he calls you are probably beat as he would most likely check and call with a worse ace. This looks like he sb is scared to let it get checked around. I take the cheep showdown and make a note about his weak river lead and I get to see MP players hand. I am sure I am missing something are you going to call a re-raise, I think not.

I think you're ahead, but I don't like the raise - who's calling you that you beat? JT? (any-10?)would likely not bet the river - and if they do, they may not call the raise.

A sooted 8-9 maybe? but that's a loose call on SB preflop. And you're getting popped right back.

Could also be a busted K heart draw getting frisky (in which case raising does nothing good). Also a pretty ballsy bet into 2 other players.

I'm jsut pretending MP3 has junk given your commentary.

Just some thoughts,

I dont see what good raising here is. You do see that the 89 straight just got home.

it felt like his most likley hand was one a pair of aces that was afraid it would get checked around

I really don't like the river raise. SB's gay bet is just too friggin wierd. If SB is a known uber donk, then maybe the raise is OK because you are almost certainly ahead of MP3. You don't know anything about SB, so you can't really judge with confidence whether its some sort of desperation move or its an "omg I just sucked out on these guys" bet.

On a side note. Your default play is to fold AQo in that spot? That's a standard 3-bet for me and its not close. I need a reason not to three-bet.

Would standard play for the SB be to check-raise the turn and lead on the river to get the hero off his what seems like a strong ace or a overpair?

That's not a good feeling to have here. Very few players at this game make that type of bet into more than one opponent. The times that you successfully make a thin value raise are crushed by the many many times you're behind.
