On the Cardplayer.com video coverage interview with Raymer playing a cash game with Forrest, Phan and others, he said they were playing a 300/600 mixed game: Triple Draw 2-7, Omaha H/L, Stud H/L 8 or better, and "4 card triple draw rainbow" because Badugi is not allowed in Vegas so they call it that. Why is it not allowed - curious...

What is Badugi? Some crazy home game variant? I'm not picking up on the rainbow reference in conjunction with this 4-card game- are you drawing to 5? Do flushes and straights not count?

They actually played this on a high limit Live at the Bike broadcast with John Hennigan playing (he destroyed the table by the way) It goes something like this... dealt 4 cards (I already may be wrong!!), you draw with betting rounds in between, and very simply the lowest hand with 4 different suits wins. If there are no hands with 4 different suits, the best 3 card combo wins. Ac2dJsKh would beat A23 rainbow. Something kinda like that. Gosh, now I think I know why it's not allowed in Vegas. It's too wacky. Apparently the swings are huge. Actually I think there was a post by Fossilman explaing the game somewhere on here.....

Its a 4 card triple draw lowball game except that the best hands must have 1 of each suit. So 2/images/graemlins/club.gif3/images/graemlins/spade.gif4/images/graemlins/diamond.gif7/images/graemlins/heart.gif beats A/images/graemlins/spade.gif2/images/graemlins/spade.gif3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif4/images/graemlins/heart.gif

Its a pretty popular varient actually. (maybe because you can play it with more people/table than traditional tripledraw?)

Here's a link to a brief strategy guide to Padooki. (I think this is how its actually spelled)

Crazy stuff. Why would a casino allow this kind of crap?

They have a tough enough time getting dealers trained for the normal games /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Apparently the Las Vegas (Nevada?) Gaming commission has not approved the game. It has been under review before but for some reason didn't pass. That's what they told me at the Bellagio. Poeple have been playing it all this month at the Rio, but they'd let us play 1-card fifth-tuple draw roll your own indian poker if we tuaght the dealers how to deal it.

On any given day the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles spreads, holdem, stud, omaha 8/b, badugi, razz, triple draw (many versions), mexican poker, chinese poker (13 card poker), studugi, no limit 5 card stud (32 card deck) and pan. On big weekends they will spread more. Badugi has been around for almost three years at the higher limits.

How will the Rio not spread Badugi but will spread it if it's not called Badugi? I'd figure the regs say you can play this set of games, not "you can play this set of games plus any game the players want as long as it's not called x, y, or z".

I don't see how they'd risk sanctions doing something not approved by the board....however they're obviously doing it, so what gives?

I'm not sure how the dealer feels dealing a game he or she knows is not allowed. Wouldn't they be risking their job??
A few extra tokes thrown their way??

my guess is that this rule is not enforced much. Maybe there is a rule that you can only play certian games, but no one really cares if you play another.

It is a great game. It is simply a triple draw lowball game with four cards and different suits. Higher variance. I think the link to Raymers post describes the rules.

The reason why you cannot play it at the Bellagio is because they never got the game approved by the nevada gaming commission. Supposedly they submitted it a long while back and there was something wrong or missing so it got rejected and they spread it occasionally but they are not supposed to. (When we sneak it into the game and a supervisor doesnt know about it and the dealer doesnt say anything)

When I first saw the Rio was spreading Padugi I just assumed they got it approved by the gaming commission. Then everyone is calling it four card triple draw so I dont know. With regard to playing it in LA well there are really no rules or regulations in LA and you can do whatever you want. The Rio has proved to be quite similar to LA. Players run the games. Dealers dont know how to deal the games. No complaints so far though.

And if you like money I'd recommend some 300600 Padugi at the Rio.
