In Alberta all we are getting for WPT action are reruns from 2 or 3 years ago. Do any of the specialty channels carry the current WPT season?

CITY-TV in Toronto will carry the new season, but probably not for another few months, if last year was any indication. I wouldn't expect it before September or so.
