SB is a decent player. Keep in mind this is 3 way.
I felt like the showdown value of my AA was good enough to try to get SB to 3-bet the turn.
Here is my thinking
if I had capped preflop, he might have put me on AA or KK or something huge and not be overly aggressive on all streets.
If I had capped the flop, I would only get 1 bet out of him on the turn.
Here are the scenarios that went through my mind before I decided to call.
1: Cap preflop, 3bet flop, 1 bet turn/river
= 5.5BB from him
2: Cap preflop, call his C/R, raise turn, 1 bet river
= 6 BB from him
3. Call 3 bet preflop, raise flop and hope for a 3bet and if so call and if so raise turn, 1 bet river
= 6 BB if it happens as planned, otherwise 4.5BB
4. 3bet preflop, call flop, raise turn and hope for cap, 1 bet river
= 7 BB from him if cap works, 5 BB if it doesn't.
I had a really tight table image, and 3 betting me meant he had a monster. I immediately put him on KK, QQ, JJ, or possibly TT.
I know I'm also gonna get blasted for playing this "Fancy" but I just want some comments on whether or not this sort of thing is +EV HU or super short handed (i.e. moderate passiveness)
