Ike went from unknown to HBO darling in a matter of 12 rounds. He was touted as one of the stellar heavyweight prospects (along with Tua, Hasim Rahman, Oleg Maskaev, and Michael Grant). Ibeabuchi scored an impressive KO win over Chris Byrd that propelled him to the top of that class of prospects. It turned out to be his last professional bout. He was arrested, charged, and convicted of raping a Las Vegas call girl and sentenced to 5-30 years in prison. Ike had some mental issues. He often complained of hearing voices in his head and being wary of demons. The disturbed individual also had a history of violent and unpredictable behavior. His troubles outside of the ring abruptly ended his career but fans still remember him. He had a perfect record of 20-0 with 15 knockouts and physical tools that grabbed people's attention. He had slugged with the immovable object in David Tua, and figured out the best defensive boxer in Chris Byrd. The way Ibeabuchi left the ring on such a high note catapulted his talent into mythical proportions among some boxing circles. Former ESPN analyst Max Kellerman even stated that Ike would have murdered champion Lennox Lewis if they had ever fought.

In August, Ibeabuchi was scheduled for a parole hearing which could have allowed him to continue his career if clemency was granted. Media and fans began to get excited about the idea of an Ibeabuchi return to a mediocre heavyweight picture. That buzz died as his parole was denied. He is next up for parole in December 2007 but he will be nearly 35 years old and out of the ring for 8 years. There is slim to no chance that Ike Ibeabuchi will ever fight again. Las Vegas call girls can rest easy knowing that the man known as the President is still behind bars, and will be for a long time.

The Heavyweight division is an all time low now, it really sucks a lot. Ike had the potential to be very good indeed.

BTW what did the leaders of the congregation think about thumping another man for a living?
