I was doing some mp3 player shopping when the guy told me about the differences between mp3's and wma's.

I was hoping maybe some of you guys could give me some recommendations about good software that will convert mp3's to wma format; or tell me, for intance, whether windows media player or Winamp will do it, etc..

Thanks.

Can you download that or is it something I'll need to go to the store to pick up?

P.S. You're the biggest/most clueless luckbox I've ever seen.

Is that good? I'm assuming you mean I can convert MP3's to WMA's at a high rate of speed? (I'm not very good at the internet.) If so, that would kick ass.

Do you put MP3's or WMA's in your MP3 player? The guy today told me that WMA's are like half the size, so I was planning to convert a bunch of my MP3's, and make sure the player I get will support the WMA format.

googe "lame" (or l.a.m.e.), rip your mp3s to VBR. high quality without using too much disk space.

You can rip CDs to MP3 format using Windows Media Player. WMP rips in WMA by default, but you can easily change it.

Open WMP, Tools, Options, click the 'Rip music' tab, from there you can see how to change the format. You can also change the quality(as mentioned earlier), and the destination folder.

Enjoy.

Cool. Thanks for the replies.

I was actually hoping to convert mp3 files that were already on my hard drive (as opposed to off a CD), but I wasn't able to find that option in Windows Media Player.

I downloaded CDex and tried it out and it seemed to work fine, but I still have a problem:

I took a folder with about 13 MP3's, and converted them into WAV files, and then converted those into WMA files. It was all good.

However, when I got done I noticed that the folder containing the new WMA files was only 2 megabytes smaller than the original folder containing the MP3's. (The original folder holding the MP3's is 50 megabytes, and the new folder holding the WMA's is like 48.)

Am I doing it wrong? The guy at Best Buy told me WMA's were about half the size, but I'm not seeing it.

So I've been messing around with this some more, and the WMA's I create from my MP3's are actually BIGGER than the original files.

I'm confused.

Exact Audio Copy

coupled with LAME is the "best" way but not the easiest.

Were you ripping to 320? I always rip my songs to either 128 or 192. Just for the record, is 128 or 192 CD quality? If it's 128 then what kind of quality is 192?
