Jana- The poker books don't make the donkeys feel stupid for playing bad. Of course he's not going to become a good player because he gets blasted on the air. However, he might become less horrible. If he feels embarassed about making stupid calls it will tighten him up. He won't start winning money, but he won't loose as much as he would have.

I didn't see all the action on Ester's AQ v QQ but it appeared she called a substantial early raise ($40 more dollars) BTF out of position. I don't like it if this is the way it went down.

Also agree with Bart that once a queen floped she might want to let the action come to her (divorcing results i.e., the fact she couldn't know she was up against QQ) rather than pushing an overbet first in with a raggy queen high flop.

Anyway, I'm not sure she will be as enthusiastic to watch the archives as she has on other nights /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Every second or third Saturday night is sort of a half play, half fun night at the Bike. First time we played together, and we never softplay each other.

Anyway, I left early to check out this thread live plus I spewed off enough chips so I only had $150 left, just the wrong amount with the other stacks being deep (and I can't rebuy unless I'm under $100).

She had some tough luck mixed in with a few dubious plays.

One play I didn't like was putting in a huge all-in raise ($300) into about a $20 pot BTF. She appeared to be a little on tilt on that play and I gave her the evil eye.

Her attempt at a limp reraise a few minutes ago with AA is fine in that there are players who will raise her with smaller pairs (plus seat seven raises light).

Ester is on the phone now.

Apparently there was a live straddle from seat 2, loose player in seat 6 calls, and she completed in the SB for $7 more. Now the BB makes it $40 more. Straddler folds, seat 6 calls, Ester calls.

IMO her call BTF depends on the play of the BB (seat 1). I thought he was fairly solid with his raises so this is a mistake even divorcing results (BTW, AK is much better here).

She is arguing that the loose play of seat 6 merits the pre flop call. Hmmm.

Since the pot was about $160 she decided to push the $250 she had left when the queen flopped. This seems OK, but IMO a bet of about $100 would get more action when she is ahead and still protect her hand.

Anyway, with this flop she was going to lose no matter what unless it comes running diamonds.

She actually looked at me and said she hoped MY mother (back in Rhode Island) wasn't watching. My Mom doesn't understand the concept that when all the money goes in and you are a big favorite you have gained expectation and spend the "virtual dollars" you have won. Keep in mind Ester turned her $200 buy-in into a $700 odd stack before the game went live. Overall she did lose $800, but has been doing real well most nights. Studying the Live at Bike archives helps.

I lost $315 in the game, but did real well in the 20/40 limit game earlier and had a monster week /images/graemlins/grin.gif
