I'm transitioning to more live poker after about 4 months of playing holdem.

What's a good rake for a 4/8 game? What's a beatable rake with normal LA players (in both senses)? What places have these good rakes?

Thanks in advance for responses. A truly beginner question, but it seems like valuable info for others too.

(And also thanks in advance for not just answering "play higher limits")

I think anything at/below $5 max is probably beatable for a decent amount if your opponents are poor enough, which they probably are.

anytime they take it out faster than 5% you need a really live game to survive. and anytime its higher than 3 bucks same story. i realize nowadays its normal to pay much more than this. but nowadys a higher ratio of players will lose in the games, and a alot more money to boot. get yourself into a position to play in time games not rake games.

oh nanoking, play higher limits

At the only casino near me the rake is 5% up to 20 in the 10-20 game, not sure about the 4-8. You are not expected to tip in this game. I've heard the games are loose and with a lot of poor players but do you think it's beatable?

If so, how much will you have to tighten up? Other adjustments?

Ouch - that's a horrible rake. Granted, most pots are going to be in the $200-300 range in a semi-live 10-20 game - but even then you are looking at a $10-15 rake per hand there. To compare, a 10-20 game in Nevada will normally rake 10% to $3 or $4 max per hand. So what if you don't have to tip - that's $1 or so per hand. With a $10 to $20 rake per hand why on earth WOULD you tip??

Definately true. That's the problem with Sweden. Always bad odds/tax/rake etc for gamblers.

On the other hand, people are not much used to poker. Maybe a bit of 5 card draw experience. Beatable? Maybe not. I'm thinking about trying it out though (the 4-8).

Any tips about adjustments? How tight?
