With a third diamond falling and a board that gives anyone with a nine a straight, I checked behind and took the free showdown. Basically, I was afraid that someone that made something would check since I had been betting the whole time, looking for a raise. I had no reads on these players as we were all pretty new to the table, but given the way they were calling down, I wasn't ruling anything out.

So... was this weak/scared? How bad? And yell at me to make sure I don't do it again.

I would fire again on this river. I am not at all concerned about the backdoor flush; if someone hit that, shrug. The gutshot 4-straight would make me a little skittish, but you will get called here by many worse hands. Then again, you might have someone with a naked 9 just call it (oh well).

Posting results is bad, mmmkay?

Bet the river
The diamond itself doesn't scare me, it came backdoor remember.
I'd have a hard time giving credit for a 9 here, and most people will pay you off with second best hands, so bet the river

Yes, they could call you on the river with some kind of flush or straight. They could even checkraise you.

But the likelyhood of this happening when you bet is less than the chance someone calls you down with two pair, TPWK, or some other kinda crap hand that is second best to the three jacks.

This is "value betting". Learn to do it, and you'll make more.

Yes, it was a missed value bet.

Also, try not to post the results of the hand. It will ensure that feedback is not influenced by how the hand turned out.

All other comments aside (I haven't read them), yes this is pretty bad.

I think you need to bet here. I didn't read the results, but this seems like a value bet. If someone backdoored a flush or straight, oh well. It doesn't happen every time the cards are on the board.

I'm firing chips in with both hands here. Clear value bet. You're getting called here way too often by weak hands to not bet.

Note: I found once I was able to constantly value bet that I won a lot more. Those extra 2BB add up mighty quick.

Would anybody's intent to value bet this be affected if it was, say, four-handed on the river? How about five? Assume that all the other streets played out the same i.e. hero bets, all others call.

I know everyone says bet here for value, and I agree.
But would you guys pay off, or fold to a check raise?

I was just thinking the same thing, but I'm 99% sure I would call down a check raise. At that point, the pot is too big to give it up for a fluke draw for one more bet.
