Turn bet screamed weakness and I thought I could take it down with plenty of outs.

I think I'd play the turn more passively, honestly. You've got a nice big stack and you don't need to lose it when you're probably a 2-1 dog here. I'd just call, and either lose few chips on the river, win a small pot, or felt him. If he's got you beat, and he probably does, you're down to 500ish chips and that sucks compared to 1400 or so.

EDIT: I'd also fold preflop, but I don't think limping is terrible or anything, but I've still got my preflop training wheels on (which is a good thing for me because I tend to play too many hands otherwise).
