mp1 seems solid, 19/8 over 100 hands. nothing looks out of line

mp3 is an uber donk. nothing looks in line with his play. he's a 62/17.

i dont think my hand is better then mp1's, but i thought that i would have a chance to knock him off the hand on the flop after my preflop cap. i question almost all of this hand, mainly because in hindsight it seems like mp1 is not oging anywhere and i should've picked that up earlier. where did i go wrong?

Trying to push out MP1 and get it headsup with MP3 isn't a bad idea, but if MP1 is aware of MP3's uber-donktasticity and/or he has a decent had it's not going to work. Also, ATo is probably gonna be too weak. Another thing to consider is what MP3's 3-betting standards are. Some players have a PFR of 17% but aren't ever 3-betting without a premium hand.

No matter what you do preflop, you went too far postflop. The original flop raise isn't too bad since you're still committed to pushing out MP1, but you really whiffed this flop. Once MP1 calls 2 cold on the flop, I'm done with the hand.

You overplayed this one IMO. Especially when you capped the flop.

i thought it was the cap flop. everything before that is okay?

If MP1 is a good player that you respect, then why would you even be in the pot with ATo after he raises? To me, ATo gets you into way too much trouble to play it against a good player, even with position.

i only have 100 hands on him. so i should probably reclarify that my reads of someone not being "out of line" means i haven't really seen him do anything crazy while playing 5 other tables.

if ATo is not good enough, what about ATs ? AJo AJs etc ? what pocket pair do you go down to? i didn't neccessarily want to have a better strating hand then the mp1. i wanted to have one better then mp3, which i was 80+% sure of with ATo, and try and knock off whatever mp1 could have.

Seems like a lot of work to try to take 3.x big bets from a donk who can't be outplayed on the turn.

Check out my ATo isolation post (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=2542710&page=&view=&s b=5&o=) from a few weeks ago. Not exactly the same situation but similar. Got some good responses on ATo and isolation.

In your hand I'm folding preflop.

Fold it, even donks get AK occasionally.
