How is Kenny Rogers doing so well? He's always been a league average pitcher throughout his career. He has a career 108 ERA+. Does anyone know why he is so sick this year?

He's pitched against the following teams:

Anaheim (twice)
Toronto
Tampa Bay
Seattle
Oakland
Cleveland
Minnesota
Houston
Kansas City (twice)
Detoit

There's your answer.

Hey Dead, how about you come clean on that picture you posted of the fairy in the pink striped shirt not actually being you

Dead,

You see, Kenny Rogers is just a brilliant pitcher early in the season. He comes off a long rest, he's throwing that good stuff, and he's a great guy off the field. I've talked with him many times, and he says his children are making life so easy for him. They never whine, they always do their homework, and his wife is typically subservient. Kenny Rogers is winning the American League Cy Young for the next 5 years.

i don't know, but i do know that the greatest thing goin g on in baseball is that the yankees are 1-8 in their last nine games.... i think

John Kruk, you are quite possibly the best gimmick account ever.

Now all we need is a Harold Reynolds gimmick account.

Anaheim, Toronto, and Minnesota are very good teams Clayton, and Rogers pitched good against them. He hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in a game all season, and he's only allowed more than 2 runs twice.

He shut out Minnesota IN Minneapolis.

I'll give you Anaheim and Minnesota, but Toronto is barely above .500

You have to admit, the total array of teams he has pitched against is unimpressive in the scheme of things. He has yet to face Baltimore, Boston, NYY, or the Whitesox. All of which are the meat of the AL.

I agree with Dead here. I got a good laugh from that.

And to answer your question, man, I have no clue. He's defying every statistical projection known to man. I haven't seen some of his advanced peripheral stats, but I would imagine he has an insanely low Hit Rate, meaning that balls put in play are being converted into outs at a greater than average percentage. He also probably has a high strand rate, meaning the bullpen is not allowing runners to score, which helps his ERA.

Otherwise, who the hell knows, I think I could hit his fastball.

Minnesota has a better record than either NY or Boston.

*edit

Yes, but Minnesota plays in a shite conference. NYY and Bosox both have worse records because they have to contend with teams like Toronto and Baltimore.

Meanwhile, Twins are playing KC, Cleveland, and Detroit. All the challenge comes from Chisox.

All of his opponents havent seen his new stuff

once they get a 2nd start on him i think they will start to hit him better.

Bah, whataver. I don't care about comparing Twins to Bosox and NYY.

Rogers has pitched against a lot of weak teams. Enough!

First of all, I shall point out once more the ERAs of both leagues

AL: 4.31
NL: 4.29.

Secondly, here are some more stats:

K 33
BB 25
HR 2

So he's not really walking anyone or giving up home runs. His strikeouts are way too low for this to continue; he's been pretty lucky.

Anaheim is a very bad offensive team. Until recently, their OBP was below .300.

Yes, but compare the AL East to the rest of the AL. It's a huge difference...

He's walking a fair amount of guys. Better than average, but not nearly enough to account for his ERA.

He has a good defense behind him and he's been extremely lucky. That's about it. I'd expect him to have an ERA around 4.00 the rest of the season.

Yeah, it's not like the Yankees have scored over 5 runs per game or anything.

AL EAST: 4.66 ERA
AL WEST: 4.28 ERA
AL CENTRAL: 3.98 ERA

So the East is above average, the west is more or less average, and the Central's on steroids thanks to El Duque... what's the big deal?

"Yes, but Minnesota plays in a shite conference. NYY and Bosox both have worse records because they have to contend with teams like Toronto and Baltimore.

The AL central has a total of 149 wins this year to the east's 148. The central has the best ERA in the AL and over the last ten games they are
Chi- 7-3 Bal 5-5
Min- 7-3 Bos 5-5
Cle- 6-4 Tor 4-6
Det- 5-5 NYY 2-8
KC- 6-4 TB 1-9

Chicago is performing well on all fronts- Minnsota has a very solid team- cleveland has the best bullpen in the majors and is a game under .500 despite having a bottom three offense all year (which is starting to show improvement)- Detroit is playing better than the NYY- and TB and KC are basically a wash.
The central is currently the strongest division in baseball and you will see the wild card come out of it this year.
